What brings you to Bangalore?
I came here to celebrate Bakr-id with my family. Bangalore is my home. I studied at Clarence High School and graduated from BMS College of Engineering.

How is Mumbai treating you?
Mumbai is my second home. I have stayed there for seven years now. People are very helpful. It's like going from one home to the other.
A peek into your role as Hatim.
When I signed Hatim, it was the only solo male project on Indian television. Sagars of the Ramayan fame were producing it. The serial's re-runs hammered the TRPs everywhere. It was only then that I received success. I can say that Hatim was on a par with The Lord of The Rings.
Is there any role that you wish to perform on TV?
I cannot think of anything bigger than Hatim. It has been two years since the serial ended but people still refer to me as Hatim. Children ask me for my sword and autograph as Hatim.
Other projects?
I am playing modern day's Karan in a serial called Saarthi. I am also a part of Resham Dankh, which is a story about the obessesive love between a father and son. Then there is Betiyaan Apni Ya Paraya Dhan where I play a tapori. I have earlier worked in soaps like Bhabhi, Achanak and Kahin Kissi Roz and Yeh Meri Life Hai.
How is Ekta Kapoor to work with?
I had done a cameo for Kahin Kissi Roz. It was fantastic. I define her as a writer's delight. It is a myth that she does not pay her stars. Viewers may crib but continue to watch the saas-bahu soaps.
How well are TV artistes paid?
TV actors are paid in two ways - per day for a daily soap and per episode for a weekly. In the early 90s, newcomers would get Rs 500 per day or Rs 1000 per episode. Today newcomers get at least Rs 5000 per day.
Any TV actor you admire?
Kiran Karmarkar who played the role of Om in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. He is an effortless actor.
Has modelling taken a backseat?
Modelling was a route to enter the glamour world. Acting is my passion. I have grown up emoting in front of my mirror.
Are you interested in Bollywood?
I would love to be the hero of the masses. Honestly, films are not going to sell in my name because people will see me only as a TV artiste. I would like to begin by playing the second lead. And I will never leave TV.
What is your aim?
To direct films. I love Ramesh Sippy's Shakti starring Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhi. Every week I watch the film from different angles like acting, editing, camera angles and then lighting. The film is an institution.
