I don't know about what is written in the literature, but in DKDM Devi Parvati did not promise the Sanat Kumars (also known as the Sankadik Rishis) that they would be Ganesh's gurus.

At the time when she donated Mahadev to the Sanat Kumars in DKDM, they took Mahadev away with them and asked him to be their guru, and he accepted their request. Then Parvati came in disguise as an old lady with Nandi and some of the Gan-Prets in disguise as her sons, to try to get Mahadev back and get the Sanat Kumars to realise that with the act of donating him and taking him away, they all (Parvati and the Sanat Kumars) had reduced Mahadev to a "thing" instead of God (and that was why they were unable to offer flowers to him as God). After they all realised their mistake and released him from having to go away with them, and Parvati came out of her disguise, she told the Sanat Kumars that Mahadev would continue to be their guru and guide them even though he would not be together with them. Then Mahadev also said that the Sanat Kumars would also become gurus soon themselves, but no one ever mentioned names of who they would be gurus of, especially not Ganesh, who did not exist/had not been born/created in the storyline of DKDM yet.

So in having Brihaspati be Ganesh's guru and not the Sanat Kumars, DKDM was actually perfectly correct according to its own storyline (even if this is different from the ancient literature), and they did not contradict themselves.

She even said yes and decided to send him, but then Narqada said, his Unapanayan is not yet over. So she waited. And the wait is not yet over.😆
