Yay! I discovered a new way of finding time to write, on my phone while on the bus (: So here's the next part just for you guys (:

Through The Monsoon: Part 5

"Thoda aur upar," Asad instructed, making Zoya change the positioning of her phone for the umpteenth time within a few minutes. Zoya tried to control her anger as she followed his instructions yet again. She knew he was doing it on purpose just to annoy her, but she wasn't going to react and let him win. She was pretty sure Asad was probably grinning anyway, but thankfully his back was facing her so she couldn't see his smug expression. If she could, she didn't know if she would be able to control her responses. Zoya bit her lower lip and continued to hold her phone up, determined not to complain at all.

Asad was immensely amused and impressed with Zoya's self-control. He had expected her to yell at him by now. But instead, she just continued shifting her phone around as he told her to. He decided to finally give the girl a break and actually try to concentrate on the fixing the wires. The problem was, he had no idea how to. He had never bothered with fixing stuff in the house himself, he'd always call up Prasad and ask him to make the necessary arrangements instead. But he couldn't possibly ask Zoya for help now, that ship had sailed a long time ago. Asad began randomly pulling out wires from the fuse box in an attempt to look busy. He was just beginning to think about how holding live wires in his palm without any actual knowledge of circuits could possibly be dangerous when the light Zoya was holding suddenly switched off, leaving the two of them in complete darkness.

"Kya hua Miss Farooqui? Light kyun bandh kardi?" Asad asked teasingly, assuming that Zoya had finally gotten sick of his constant commands and admitted defeat. But Zoya didn't answer him, and in the darkness, all he could figure out from the sounds was that Zoya was pressing the buttons on her phone in a pretty vigorous manner. Asad had half a mind to turn around and see what was wrong, but he was holding dubious wires in his hands and he really didn't want to make any sudden movements, lest he get an electric shock because of it. He tapped his foot on the ground loudly to attract Zoya's attention.

"Woh... I think my battery died," Zoya finally replied sheepishly, and she slapped the back of her phone against her palm. But to no avail, her phone still failed to revive. Her ears perked up when she heard something that sounded like a soft chuckle. The nerve of this man! Laughing at her plight like that.

"And I recall a certain Miss Tech-Savvy Farooqui boasting about the wonders of technology in comparison to a mere candle. At least if a candle goes off, it can be relighted immediately," Asad said, openly taking a jab at Zoya. He heard Zoya huff in response, and his dimples simply deepened as his smile widened.

"There's no need to go back to the house to get a candle. My phone has that very app as well. It's in my pocket. I can't take it out though, my hands are full," Asad quickly added on when he heard Zoya trying to push the hut door open. He craned his neck to see if Zoya had stopped, still unable to turn around due to the fact that he was scared of getting an electric shock.

"You have that app as well? Wow, I'm shocked. That's really quite a feat for someone who wasn't able to break a voice password on his own phone," Zoya answered sarcastically, glad to have found an opportunity to mock him as well. She was about to lift her hand up to take Asad's phone out of his pocket when she suddenly felt a rush of nervousness flow through her body.

"Um, which pocket? And um, how do I... how do I locate it? I mean like... I can't see anything," Zoya managed to fumble out, as she tried to find the correct words to express herself. There was a long silence that followed, before Asad finally broke it.

"It's in my front pocket. And um, you're standing directly behind me. I'm sure you can gauge from your own stance where my pocket would be," Asad answered huskily, after much contemplation. He was deciding between telling Zoya to forget it and just fetch a candle from the house or telling her to search for his phone in the darkness anyway. He wasn't sure why he went with the latter option, but now it was too late to change his decision.

Zoya swallowed nervously when she heard Asad's answer. She realized that she could still back out and tell him she would rather get a candle, but somehow her hands had already began darting out in the dark, trying to locate Asad. She decided to be safe and aim for an area higher up first, and one of her hands landed on his upper arm... his muscular upper arm. She'd always wondered how he kept so fit. She trailed her shaky fingers towards his back, and lowered them till she reached the waistband of his jeans. She could feel Asad taking in large breaths, larger than usual, and she swallowed again, trying to continue breathing herself. She followed the line of the waistband to the front, taking a step forward as she did since it required her arm to stretch out further. The step forward caused her to bump into Asad's back softly, and she stayed in that position, his back to her front. She was sure she heard a sharp intake of breath by Asad before he stopped breathing altogether. She quickly found the opening of his pocket, and tried to slide her fingers in to find the phone.

"Miss Farooqui, not that side. It's on the other side," Asad said breathlessly, as Zoya's fingers froze in his pocket. He felt her slowly remove her fingers, before he felt her body shifting from behind his. She felt her way under his arm to come to the front, as Asad held the wires up and away from getting tangled up in Zoya. He felt Zoya's hot breath hit him on his chin. The darkness was unnerving. They were now face to face, but they had no idea how close they were to each other.

Zoya skimmed his belt from the front, moving her fingers delicately from his left pocket to his right. She finally slid her fingers into the correct pocket and pulled out his phone, sandwiched between her index and middle finger. She jabbed at the first button she could feel, and Asad's phone lighted up, demanding a password. The slight amount of light from that action was already enough for Asad and Zoya to realize that they were standing extremely close to each other, their noses brushing and lips mere inches away from each other's.
