I would say...Madhu is the most useless, nonsense and worst character of the show rest are perfectly alright.
If creatives gives some brain to Madhu...this current track will also turn interesting to watch.
This is why the show never picked up in the days of Mukund and RK being RK looking down upon Chawl crowd.
At that time too, TRP audience wanted to connect to practicality within a girl who is the heroine. When that does not happen they get disillusioned.
I have seen in various forums here, let me count how many...DABH, HD, AB, RJN, EHMMBH, BV, PSH, PV, PR, BALH and ASA along with MEIEJ.
In all of these soaps, the heroines are not perfect, but they are good girls, who are conflicted between their self-interests and love for their family. When these girls make mistakes, I have seen half of the forum ready to forgive them for their dumbness as someone else is showing them that you are being wrong. That someone could be anyone...her hero or her mother or her friend.
When MEIEJ initially slipped below 2 TRP, it came into class of HD, AB, RJN, PSH, PV...But the moment Madhu went to RK and agreed to get married for her father's sake...she killed two birds with single stone...took care of family and took care of self-interest as she can fight RK's RKesque. That was the reason TRP audiences remained loyal and more got added because of RK Drama.
We all know...once heroine is accepted, the TRP drama sells because of other characters around her. There needs to be constant entertainment in terms of good dialogues, acting and twisting and plotting. It is must that we get entertained through supporting characters else interest fades away.
In MEIEJ it was RK and Dips. There was no other character developed in good way. This is where writing of MEIEJ fell beyond repair. Now add to that lacuna, a heroine who no longer has any self-interest and has no affection for family. So how can the audience now connect to her ?
When I say supporting characters, I am not saying cameos. I am saying supporting characters who are going to stay throughout.
AUDIENCE
Once the heroine is accepted and audience gets a grip on her character, then they start predicting...oh this is how she will behave, this is how she will lose or win...and it becomes an anticipation game for them to see HOW Factor. But in MEIEJ, the writers messed with Madhu character by giving her a Prem Game to play. This is where Audience gets a jolt and they are forced to disconnect with her and feel as if they are seeing a new woman. The present impatience is not stemming from frustration that Madhu is dumb enough not to see where her self interest and family interest lies...their impatience is from the fact that they DO NOT understand their heroine. When watching a drama, it is imperative that Audience needs to identify the Protagonist and Antagonist so that he or she takes a side and watches the drama. When one cannot pick a side, the audience feels confused and becomes beliigerant within the chaos around him.
ACCEPTABILITY vis-a-vis the Drama
CHAOS and CONFUSION is something the Audience never wants in terms of its heros, heroines and Villain even if they have 100 faults with them...that is another reason why even people like Raavan get accepted. The audience is able to dissect the good and bad out of Raavan and yet know what kind of fate he awaits. So Madhu or Sultan or RK too can have 100 faults, but they need to be predictable even with the twists they bring in. RK is predictable in the sense that he thinks Alag Che. Madhu is predictable in the sense that she is the one to hurt her loved ones. When these two make mistakes they need to be consistent with their Core Character.
So RK's twists are all acceptable...because he has that focussed mind and Duniya se Begaana outlook on life. Madhu's twists should also be acceptable if her actions are consistent with her character. And this is where she has become unacceptable in the sense the Consistency is GONE. When Mukund drama happened, Madhu was single handedly fighting RK and her family. Later on her family came on to her side. She always had everyone's support and stood against RK. When Sultan was introduced, Madhu again single handedly stood against RK and her family and slowly she turned everyone to her side for standing by Sultan. This much was consistent and so we accepted.
But the Sultan as Half-Brother drama was totally derailed twist to begin with. The writers needed to show end of Sultan's role in MB life like Mukund. And then during those same wedding days, they could have introduced new cameo characters on the other side of MBVerse where another character could have come across Rashid and Meera. And in here...Madhu would have had the potential of supporting MEERA standing against RK and her family...and slowly she would have won her family's support except RK's. This would have been consistency in her character and then everyone would have enjoyed the drama...because its quite okay if MK had illicit relationships as well. The biggest mistake the writers made was they made the TOOFAN for Madhu in Sultan who had already died as a character in second phase until the wedding and they resurrected him instead of adding Muscle and Tissue around MEERA Skeleton. They made an entire believable drama into INCONSISTENCY SHIP.
In terms of drama...Madhu single handedly blackmails everyone to support her as it is she who picks her choice (be it Mukund or Sultan) and struggles to obtain her family support against RK. But in this Sultan-Meera twist, already with dilution because of a dead character, the VOLTE-FACE of drama's plotting happened when Madhu is not single handedly responsible to bring TOOFAN home. She could have met MEERA and saw the bangle...and slowly drama could have developed...but here she is merely pulled in...and there is no way she cannot see what is right and wrong under her roof. For God's sake she is not on the Street or Jungle...to forget her family commitments and give into her Self-Interests. Instead HERE we have Radhaji blackmailing Madhu to create drama...breaking the rule of Family needs to support Madhu and not the Vice Versa of Madhu supporting the Family (minus RK). This has been the Biggest Rule Break and so after disconnect with Madhu because of Prem Game, now Audience has disconnect with DRAMA because PLOTTING Rule Break.
RESULT : Audience is totally Disconnected.
