In the Debator of the week post of -Dr. Abhijeet Shukla ,he in reverse asked fellow Dmers the following question:

How can we use DM to improve upon ourselves and the world we live in? (there is not much need to improve DM. It is working just fine)

Reality Bites answered:

DM can be used in smaller ways like by being more forbearing to differing viewpoints, respecting others and drawing acceptable conclusions from a relevant topic discussion. Also not diverting from the main topic to related side issues.

I dont think DM can be of much help, although IF is very famous worldwide and many people all over the world come here.....but there are very few people who really follow what they preach and also very few people in the world who do what they set out for

Dear Friends!!

I wish to know your opinions on the question of Dr Abhijit

How can we use DM to improve upon ourselves and the world we live in?

Cheers,

We all already are doing that.

Interacting, listening to other viewpoints - which should, in theory, broaden our own views.

If we can open our minds a wee bit more, the world becomes a better place - after all, the world is what we see with our own eyes.

I concur with this viewpoint, I only come to DM for this.

To learn to see the other viewpoint, sometimes I like to present the opposing viewpoint pretending I am on that side, see what other arguments can be made, etc, even though it might be seen as argumentative

Reading posts on DM is about getting to see a bigger picture through diversity in terms of location, age, educational expertise, attitude and interest of the debators.
One can learn a lot from one-liners as well as pages writen passionately about issues. It also gives one an opportunity to reflect on one's own views.
Personally, I am amazed by all those who post a topic for debate. I love to express my opinions, but I find it so hard to come up with a debate-worthy topic! (not the bollywood threads please, i can post 5000 of those per second).

I concur to Jatayuji's viewpoint. Though these days I see a sudden tardiness among somo including me.

Hear a view, see a word, test the waters, quirk of fate, guzzling gorilla, random banter, asterix and obelix, permanently temporary, a rolling stone gathers no money all squarely rounded up by a quick brown fox jumping over a lazy pineapple.
