I think comparing Indian reality shows in general with American ones is doing a disservice to both. When I watch DWS and other american dance shows, I am watching purely for the dance! But when I watch Indian dancing shows (NB, JDJ, DID, etc.), I watch for the entire package. I want to not only watch the dance, but I want to watch the comedy by the hosts, the light moments, etc.
The two things are packaged super differently for two very different audiences. A cut and dry American approach to reality dance competitions would never work in India. It would fail miserably cuz the masses would not be entertained and they'd just change the channel to whatever else was on (even if it was a old movie that the have watched dozens of times)! Similarly, when I watch a Bollywood movie, I want the songs and dances and happy endings. Whereas when I watch Hollywood, I am okay with the vague end or the unhappy one cuz my mindset was different. However, the vast majority of TRPs don't come from people like us who have computers at home and are mostly in foreign countries, it comes from the middle class and lower in India who sit around the TV at night because there is nothing better to do... and those TRP audience is what these shows are made for (and the vast majority of soaps 😆)

That being said, I do think the marking is unfair and the judges need to be more realistic. I don't think I have ever seen something lower than a 6 on JDJ in all it's seasons. They need to rate it like it is - give out some lower scores and only give the absolutely flawless ones 10s. Also, the PHs need to figure out how to make them seem less scripted 😆

I mean, OK- she's beautiful. Can we give it a rest already. And basically every performance seems to be "outstanding". What the heck? Some of them were decidedly awful. (Like Meghna's dance on the cart- it was bad) And Siddharth Shukla's dances. (all bad). And yet, no one ever uses the word bad. It's either stupendous or well, less stupendous but still good. Bakwaas hai. Plus, the drama quotient.

What kind of theme is family for a dance competition? This is not a Karan Johar movie! That theme was chosen specifically for the sob story quotient. So everyone could come and say how much they love their parents, and more specifically, so Dr.Nene could come and woo his wife in public. Not there's anything wrong with it. Just- it's a dance show. And you're clearly doing it 'cos your wife is getting paid big bucks to flaunt you there. Rubbish hai.

Thoroughly disappointed with the drama AND the dancing. The kids are very good. Shaan is OK too. Ekta is wooden and looks like she will burst into tears at any moment. Drashti- she's OK as a dancer, but slightly expressionless. Siddharth Shukla has 2 left feet. Bleh. I prefer India's dancing superstar. At least I get to see better quality dancing. Also, I think Lauren has the unfair advantage of being a professional dancer- She's clearly streets ahead of the other celebrities.

agree wid u half of the time is taken by the hosts nd their jokes made me to think if it was a comedy show ok if fr trps pH is doing these then they can maintain a good balance betn these in IDS u can find complete dance nd comedy even ritesh being not so good in dancing judges better than remo

It's realy funny to see the judges giving so easily 10 and that too when the contestants don't deserve 😆
I am disappointed to see them making fun of such beautiful dance form like Tango 🤢

More time is spent on the Et ceteras than actual dance performances...it would have been bearable in small doses keeping in mind the audience...but here it is a matter of Over Kill...its like..OMG not one more😲

One more point I wanted to make. The way the hosts keep flirting with Lauren just 'cos she doesn't understand Hindi very well (though at this point she likely does!) is pretty pathetic. I don't mind Manish and Kapil's hosting. I prefer Kapil to Manish- he seems more natural and less forced. But its like they've both been told to drown in their own saliva over all the pretty women who come on their show. Just bizarre. Hold it in guys. We know they're pretty. This open salivation is completely unnecessary and in poor taste.

Good hosts are generally unobtrusive and remain in the background unless a point is to be made. Being funny is fine. Being in our faces all the time is annoying.

I completely agree with you. But, apparently, a lot of viewers love their comedy including their pathetic flirting with Lauren, other female contestants, Mads, and any guest female celebrity.

Very distasteful.
