Prithvi stirred. Nodding, he took out the dagger. It gleamed in the moonlight. He held it firm in his right hand.
"I'll do it" he coldly said.
His right hand stretched out, he dashed towards Datta.
"I am sorry, Datta"
His mind was full of fear. But he knew, he had to succeed. He had this one chance, no more no less.
The shining knife swiftly passed through Datta's arm. Blood splattered on the road. Daata groaned.
Darkness in his favor, Prithvi ran at full speed towards Meera.
At that instant many things happened.
Prithvi kicked one of the men holding Meera. He tumbled on the ground. With the knife, he gravely injured the other.
Noise. Men were screaming about not to let the girl away. Then, a familiar voice shouted "Attack"
The clouds gave away and the moon shined brightly spreading light all over again.
Picking up Meera, Prithvi literally dumped her at the back seat and took the wheel. Hitting hard on the accelerator he was already away from all the hullabaloo that was taking place over the meeting place. He had to take Meera away. He took whichever road he could take, driving at optimum speed. He felt anguish. His heart beat fast.
He himself found it difficult that he had been sucessful in saving both datta and Meera. A feeling of calmness filled him. Still the danger was not over. Those assailants would follow them, hunt them down.
Atleast Daata is safe now.
He looked in the mirror with a pair of perturbed eyes staring at him endlessly.
Prithvi could see the endless questions arising in her eyes. He thought he had drived quite a distance away, and stopped the car instantly. getting out, he cut opened the rope freeing Meera's hands and legs. He cautiously removed the gag over her mouth. It pained him more to see her injuries and bruises. His blood boiled at seeing her condition.
Meera was going through a stage when everything seem wrong. She couldn't reach to conclusions, her mind was filled with so many things she couldn't think straight.
"WHAT HAPPENED JUST NOW???!"
She wanted to shout but only a muffled voice escaped her lips.
"WHERE IS DAD??!" she started hitting Prithvi on his chest with both her hands, crying. A tear escaped his eye.
"Meera, calm down."
She looked up at him her eyes bloodshot. Voice quivering.
"ANSWER ME FIRST!!"
Gathering all of the remaining energy, Meera slapped him hard. Crying hysterically she shouted at him.
"TELL ME PRITHVI!!!"
Prithvi was certainly taken aback by the sudden slap but he understood her state of mind. He let her talk and shout at him, vent out all her frustrations, doubts. She needed to take it all out of her mind.
Prithvi said not a word but engulfed her in his arms. His right hand caressed her hair while the other rested on her waist. Meera cried her heart out.
"Daata is safe dear. He is with Lakhan"
She looked up. Her eyes brightened up.
"Lakhan! He came. HE DID!! " Meera exclaimed with a low voice. She hugged Prithvi back tightly.
"Thank you Prithvi. I love you so much"
Prithvi gazed at his love after hearing the sudden revelation. She informed Lakhan? How?
Prithvi held her close to his heart.
"Meera, tell me everything that happened," loosening his arms around her, he cupped her face.
"What did they do to you!" he said as his eyes caught the bilious wound on her forehead and dried blood, she winced at the touch. It still hurt.
Meera took his hand.
"I will tell you everything. But first we need to get somewhere safe. They might be following us"
Prithvi nodded.
Both jumped back into SUV and drove away. Little did they know about the destination ahead and the long chase that had already commenced.
