F rom wanting to be a cardio surgeon to getting into a profession where he just might break a few hearts with his boyish char m, Imran Khan made his debut in the week-old Kulvaddhu which also stars Milind Gunaji, Kitu Gidwani and Suhasini Mulay. Khan plays Shourya, the apple of everybody's eye. Character-speak I portray the role of Shourya. He has studied abroad but is rooted in his traditions.

But there is a dark secret about him which forms the crux of the story. Flash back I have earlier worked in Maan, Dil ki Dosti and Kashmeer. My first lead role was in Milee. But it turned negative eventually.

'Grandma's boy' Apart from my role, what also got me interested in Kulvaddhu is actress Suhasini Mulay. She portrays the role of my grandmother. She had also played my grandmother in Maan. So I was bribed into doing this show by casting us together again. We share a wonderful rapport. I call her my jaan. My producer strongest Anuj Saxena, the producer of Kulvaddhu is a perfectionist and he has done everything possible to make this show as lavish and grand as possible. For its sheer opulence, I would call it the Devdas of the small screen. Theatre calling I am very actively involved in theatre in Delhi. I like to do one show at a time because I don't like too much on my plate. When I am not doing television, I go to Delhi and do a play.

But this time, theatre will have to wait a while because this show is commissioned for 300 episodes, at least for the moment.
