I know this is old news at this point, but it popped up on my timeline today and I thought it was a pretty good time to wonder what the response and expectations from their future collaborations might be considering the spectacular success of the Dhurandhar movies.

I don’t think the genre has been particularly handled well in the recent times. Older movies lacked the technical prowess we have today even if they had good actors.

Rajamouli’s Varanasi is showing real potential and I think if Dhar and Ranveer are seriously thinking of collaborating again they will ensure that they do their best. We know courtesy of Dhurandhar, budget is no longer going to be an issue. After SLB, Ranveer has found the second director who has been able to do justice to his talent. We know the hype itself around the project will be insane.

There are also so many stories in our scriptures that it remains to be seen which one is even in discussions here for development if the news is true. I mean everyone knows Ramayana is in focus so it obviously won’t be the subject but there’s so many other stories about so many avatars. Also, I believe it will be a good thing if Ranveer does this, it will prove his versatility in a genre which he’s obviously not done before.

Absolutely.

I would love to know which exact story Dhar has in mind if this is true. We know Ramayana has been done twice recently itself; Adipurush was a disaster that everyone associated with the project would love to forget. Ramayana with Ranbir still is under wraps and until we get more we can’t say how it will turn out despite the budget and everything else. Vicky Kaushal is doing Parshurama… so the genre seems as an inevitable choice to try his hand at.

Ranveer has already proven he can do period movies and is fantastic at them irrespective of what shade he plays as a character. Dhar has I daresay extracted his career best performance, even better than SLB, so them coming together will be a big deal no matter what in the future. I am simply curious which story or figure Dhar is going to focus on. Something tells me it might be about Mahadev, idk I get this feeling knowing Dhar’s own Kashmiri roots and his inclusion of the scene with Mahadev in Baramulla was certainly owing to that, but can’t be sure until get more info. Crazy thing is, Mohit Raina as Mahadev has become such a part of our minds that even Ranbir’s Ramayana has him reprise the role as he’s become so synonymous with Mahadev. So let’s see…

I personally don't want Ranveer to do a mythological character especially with Ranbir and Vicky doing the avatar's of Vishnu. I think a film works well when the intentions are good.

I was looking forward to Ramayanam until they started pandering for an Oscar agenda. Comic con stuff, seriously? India needs to stop begging for US attention. Sorry to bring this topic up here.

Ranveer is a great actor, focus on that. He doesn't need stardom, stardom will come his way if his acting is great.

I understand your POV and agree with the sentiment that we don’t need an Oscar or a Golden Globes for validation. This is also exactly where I want to raise a point - the article states mythology - a term labelled for our epics and other scriptures by British.

Currently the article mentions mythology but it doesn’t explicitly state the subject matter in development. Which is where things could get interesting - I believe a director with Dhar’s sensibilities would know that going for a movie about any Vishnu avatar is not going to be an ideal thing with so many movies already focused on Ram avatar, Parshuram in the development and Kalki sequel in the pipeline. So he won’t go that way for sure.

I would therefore like to see what he’s going for and not dismiss the idea simply because I think a genre may or may not work. Ideally I would love to see Ranveer play Raja Bharat, the one after whom we get the name Bharatvarsha. I think it would be an interesting and a novel subject and no one has made anything whatsoever regarding the figure ironically who is responsible for the very identity of our country.

Depending on the story selected romance can be a part of it much like Dhurandhar had a subplot even if it wasn’t the main focus.

People these days want unique stories and well there’s only so much you can do to reinvent romance as a genre.

I also think given his body of work so far, not just as director, Dhar has an experience across various genres in different departments of filmmaking. But I don’t think I have seen him work as an associate or a writer or assistant in any movies that had romance as a focus specifically. He does include romantic subplots but they’re not the focus of his movies.

Ranveer is so perfect for Mahadev. I was literally thinking of this, he has the hair. The physique...perfect choice!!! I wish they would adapt Immortals of Meluha
