Toady's episode amazed me.. I can now see what the makers had in their mind!
Science has done a lot for the humanity, but I always think, the greatest of its contribution is towards women. I am not talking about the big inventions.. but small-scale innovations (home appliances) which made women's life really simple and allowed women to pursue other dreams of their lives.
Wearing ready-made saree served the purpose and saved time..and same happened as they used the roti-making machine. Knowledge and education is not for formal jobs only.. a smart and educated woman uses her brain everywhere, even in household and that not only makes her life easy, it gives her an opportunity to encourage innovation and women's participation in other social and national issues.
In our society, (Indian sub-continent in particular), most MILs want roti in breakfast, not because there is no substitute (like bread butter), just to keep the DIL engaged in kitchen..
Same is with Uma Ben.. So what CC wore a ready made saree.!. Its a saree, isn't it?? But she would try to make her wear normal saree, just because she wants to make her life difficult. And its not only her.. I know many MILs who, instead of being happy and proud of her DIL's intelligence, would take it negatively and challenge her to wear saree (or do things) in traditional way..
Its difficult to convince them to embrace blessings of science simply because that makes their mission to annoy and torture their DILs little difficult..
Hope CC succeeds changing that attitude!
