If there's one thing I've learned in the past few days, it's that life is full of heartbreak, there's no two ways about that. But life is also full of choices, and I had the choice of moping around or sucking it up, so I evidently chose the first option. But then talking to my loved ones, and receiving such lovely messages from you guys made me shift to the latter option in the end (: So after quite a number Big Bang Theory episodes, a few Kinder Buenos and a tub of B&J's later, here I am in better spirits, presenting the next part to you guys. Thank you for your patience everyone (:

Mangalpur Madness: Part 31

Asad took a few steps back from Zoya, a little hurt that she had shoved him away so uncaringly. The hurt easily transformed into anger as the scene replayed over and over in his head. He grabbed his shirt from the floor where he had carelessly thrown it while attempting to flirt with Zoya, and flung it over his head in anger, quickly putting it on. He threw a look at Zoya and found that she was just shuffling her feet nervously while watching him, but quickly averted her gaze to the floor when he turned to her.

"Fine then let's go," Asad ordered curtly while walking out of the shelter, not bothering to wait for Zoya's response at all. He began looking around for some signs of the main road, and easily spotted what looked like the road since the fogginess had cleared up after the rain stopped. He could vaguely see vehicles going by, and assumed as much at least. Asad began pacing in that direction, under the impression that Zoya would just catch on.

Three minutes into walking like as though his life depended on it, Asad's restlessness finally got to him and he decided to check on Zoya. He turned around and was somehow not surprised that Zoya was in fact not behind him, he should've known that leaving his musibat in a jungle was like intentionally calling musibat upon himself. He failed to understand why she was acting all pricey when she was the one who shoved at him anyway. He felt his anger build up again as he thought about it, but still traced his footsteps back to get Zoya.

Asad saw a flash of hot pink behind one of the trees as he walked back, and quickly made his way there, a frown creasing his forehead. He had expected Zoya to have just stubbornly stayed at the shelter, not walk out and play hide and seek with him. Another bout of anger hit him as he thought about Zoya's childishness, and he readied himself to lash out at her when he reached her.

"Miss Farooqui! Aap..." Asad yelled as soon as he reached the tree, but trailed off when he took in the sight of her. Zoya was using the tree as support while standing on one leg, her hand massaging her sprained foot. She hadn't disobeyed him at the shelter when he announced that they should go, and neither was she hiding from him on purpose and making him worry. She had followed behind him out of the shelter, but his pace was too quick for her to keep up. All Asad has truly ended up doing in his anger, was successfully causing Zoya's already swollen foot to grow even bigger in size. He rolled his eyes inwards as he shut them and unclenched his fists, just as Zoya looked up at him, her eyes slightly teary.

When Asad opened his eyes again, they had visibly softened. He bent down on his knee and carefully took her injured foot into his hand yet again, his apology already forming in his mind. But before it could reach his lips, Zoya pulled his hand off her foot and forcefully pushed it away from her. Wordlessly, she limped away from him, determined to find her own way back.

Asad watched Zoya's retreating figure and breathed in and out heavily, in a bid to keep his anger in check. He turned back towards the tree and punched it, letting out a low growl. Why did she keep pushing him away? Now it seemed she didn't even want his help anymore. Did his presence irk her that much? Didn't seem quite that way just a while ago, so what happened all of a sudden? There were so many questions floating around in his head, yet none he could verbalize, and he didn't even know why.

He looked over at Zoya again, and felt a pain he couldn't place when he realized that Zoya's footsteps were getting heavier and her limp was becoming more obvious as well. In that point of time, he suddenly realized that putting all of their other issues aside, all he needed and wanted to do is help her, even if she insisted that didn't want it. He broke into a jog as he approached her, and then swiftly wrapped one arm around her waist and the other under her knees, lifting her off the ground. He let her struggle for a while but kept his grip firm.

Zoya eventually gave up and relaxed in his hold, once she realized her efforts were futile. She wrapped her arms around his neck and looked up at his face, but to her surprise, he was not looking down at her. He was looking straight ahead as he began walking again, his jaw still slightly clenched in anger. She lifted her hand to his face and cupped it, stroking his jaw ever so lightly with her thumb. She smiled and shook her head a little when Asad shifted his head away, despite the fact that she had felt his jaw ease up under her touch. This man was going to be one tough nut to crack.
