I think it is possible to choose the sex with advances in medicine...and I think in general through IVF, male children are born more often. 😕

Pay for what?

Yes you have to pay and the most successful one (around 90% success rate) is VERY expensive. Also, it depends on the laws, not every country allows it unless there is a risk of gender related abnormality, like cystic fibrosis.

And you're right, I remember reading somewhere that a study in Australia had actually found that IVF babies are more likely to be boys. I read this a few years ago though so don't know how true it is.

Look:

Its an additional expense to select the sex of the baby...and it is generally not allowed unless there is a risk for disorders.

I HIGHLY doubt he would use this for a promotional technique. From all these years of "knowing" him, at least this I'm sure about. But then, who knows? I don't think it's a promotional technique though.

Yeah, BBC talked about that study in Australia. Through IVF, chances of a male child being born increases slightly..but they essentially try to optimize chances of pregnancy. I think I had heard somewhere that it might have to do with something about how faster growing embryos are most likely boys, and they end up picking that one because it maximizes chances of pregnancy...hence people end up with a boy more often than not..
