t has been a while when I haven't tickled my funny bone amply. But with depression and morose building an overwhelming ambiance, Koimoi takes a look at the most notable comic capers of Bollywood.

Hera Pheri

Proclaimed as a cult classic, the film is a remake of Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking. The film was a hit because each of its actors brought their funniest best on screen giving audiences not a single moment of dullness. The trio of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty made this film unforgettable. Definitely gave me a tummy ache, I remember!

Andaz Apna Apna

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, this Aamir Khan-Salman Khan starrer was a hiatus of 90s' epic comedy! Its box office collections were moderate but most of the audiences can never give this one a miss every time it's telecast on television. Another cult film in the comic genre!

Gol Maal

Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, this 1979 film is one of Bollywood's finest comedies! This film gave us characters and lines which are so stably etched in our memories! A feel good neat comedy

Chupke Chupke

Chupke Chupke Movie Poster

Another film from the man who created an unsurpassable place in humor which no director could achieve after him. Chupke Chupke starring Om Prakash, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan along with Sharmila Tagore and Asrani is again a film we cannot possibly forget. Karela and Corolla comparisons never really got out fashion since then.

Padosan

Based on a Bengali story Pasher Baari, Padosan is a film which immortalized romancing with neighbor in Bollywood! Starring Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu along with Kishore Kumar and Mehmood making for the film's hilarity quotient is hard to forget in Bollywood!

Chachi 420

With this film, popular actor Kamal Hassan ventured into film direction. Dressing up as a middle aged woman, Kamal Hasaan had his audiences laughing while trying to make his former wife (Tabu) fall back in love with him, appease his father in law (Amrish Puri) and mostly his Sherlock Holmes like P.A Banwarilal.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron Movie Poster

It is an image that can't be fazed out. Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Baswani strolling and wheeling around Satish Shah's corpse all over the place, will have you laughing till the end. The satire holds on to its fun quotient too tightly and wonderful actors like Om Puri and Pankaj Kapur doesn't let the momentum lag. High recall value for a multiple reasons, this film will remind you how neat and witty humor has become obsolete in Hindi cinema.

Khosla Ka Ghosla

With this film, director Dibaker Banerjee ventured into film making. Boldly sporting a genre which had lost its charm to romance and drama, smart humor was finally welcomed back in Bollywood with this. Working off the wonderful performances of Boman Irani and Anupam Kher, this one will make you laugh of the most cimple and ordinary thing. Blaze is not where humor hides itself.

Hungama

Adapted from the Telugu film, Gopala Rao Gari Ammayi, the film is fun ride with Paresh Rawal winning accolades for his performance all the way! The funny and 'electrifying' climax is what works the best for this film.

Bombay To Goa

Yet another comic caper in the 70s, the film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Aruna Irani and Mahmood. Bombay To Goa was Big B's first film as the main lead. The movie is known specially for its catchy tunes.

Bollywood hasn't left any segment of humor unevolved. From satire to obscene hilarity, we have perhaps covered it all. Yet, Bollywood has spent too much time fretting about romance and drama that humor might have gone ignored! It is obviously easy to make people cry, but making people laugh isn't everyone's cup of tea!

As a kid, I did. But I don't like the movie anymore.

I like most of the movies you've mentioned. I'll add Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar with that list.

Can I add Jab We Met as well? It was kind of a situational comedy. I really liked how Imtiaz included comic scenes at very normal situations.

Out of the list, Chachi 420 FTW!
Chupudi chupudi chaaa..chi..chupudi chupudi chachi! and yes, I love Chachi 420 MUCH MORE than Mrs. Doubtfire.🥳
