FOBS and 'Freshies'..My pet peeve!

This pejorative word gets my goat!

Certain platitudes often heard

"Fobs have such a deplorable English accent"

"Fobs are such jerks"

"Fobs ostracize themselves from the other desis,they make cliques and never bother to mingle with other desis"

"Fobs drag the desi diaspora's name through mire"

"Fobs have the most despicable attitute,and they are so obnoxious"

"Fobs dont know anything about style,make up,fashion etcetera"

It's strange,why desis themselves abhor and belittle fellow desis😕..Its a bloody give and take procedure,these countries outsource employees from India,Pakistan,Bangladesh as

1)cheaper labour

2)good competency

3)desis are better off at english compared to the chinese, koreans, japanese,africans etc

Comignt to the perquisites enjoyed by the desis

1)They enjoy a better standard of living

2)Working abroad is considered somewhat of a status symbol that they can flaunt(I yet have to fathom out as to why some people are so obsessed over the United States😕)

3)Higher income than what they would get in India

4)Less interference from relatives/acquaintances

so,lets mull a few questions over...

a)your general opinion on this issue

b)Why does accent command paramount attention,even the Silicon Valley doesnt give as much importance to accent as much it does to the brains??I guess its this patronizing attitude and barbed comments that lead Indians to faking an accent,which sounds so awful when they are back in India(people who have lived in the US for a meagre 6 months have such a heavy twang,that it seems preposterous🤢)

c)Indians arent doing UK and US a favour by working there,as reiterating,outsourcing has proven mutually beneficiary to both parties..Thus why this helluva disdain and hauteur??

d)When the "Indian Americans" and POI(people of indian origin) in Britain can disesteem immigrants using derogatory words such as Freshies and "Fresh of the Boats",then why blame the newly immigrated indians for retreating into a shell,afterall why would they want to mingle,when they are made the butt of ridicule and scorn??

e)Thus besides havig to confront the racist slurs mouthed by some goras,these people also have to put up with the name calling by other desis

Correct me if I'm wrong,but this is the general impression I've formed after having acquainted myself to a few second and third generation desis,and after having heard this word used in a rather aspersive vein...I would also like to know the other side of the story,the side which I am not seeing,the other side of the coin😃

A vituperative word,used by desis residing in the United States...a word used to address the people(Indians) who have recently moved to the US(or UK).....

Savie asked my question. Buffie, i am not sure about it. As I have not seen that here around me atleast. if a new employee comes and is a migrant, we try to tell them basics which we learnt with due course of time. that too with respect. I even help the ladies with the info on what shops sre better for what purchase, but yes never force them, I give them ideas and rest leave on them. I did not see so far anyone who was mocking any freshman from abroad. you are much younger so may have seen that int he crowd. It is insane though. How can you mock a person specially who is coming from your land. We may be here but our roots are there. Oure fore fathers were there and what we earn here is basically due to what we or our parents learned back home.

Ah ABCD/FOB debate, been a while since I saw one😆, but only interesting if both sides really get down and dirty on this, then it is a lot of fun, Lots of work for Sowmyaaji😆😆

Seriously, it's a sign of immaturity. I confess I too have made fun of ABCD teenagers in similar fashion under sheer naiveness. Eventually we all grow up!

Is ABCD=American Born CONFUSED desi (this is what I believe is the correct word whose acronym is ABCD)

or American Born CUTE Desi (and this is what one acquaintance(needless to say,an ABCD) told me)

Accent matters Evee, but only in the proffessional set ups..Not when you were cassually chatting and looking down upon someone who doesnt speak in a certain accent, is gross..And that's what some ABCDs do..
