I know a number of us have been frustrated with the never ending cycle of Asad berates Zoya-then gifts her some beautiful clothes.
Even though it's a repetitive theme, each gift and it's outcome symbolizes a progression in their relationship. Each gift symbolizes what Asad wants in his ideal life partner but the outcome symbolizes that his expectations cannot come true each time; he will need to accept this fact and still love his life partner unconditionally. Zoya has been shown to be grateful and happy after receiving each gift but hasn't been able to fulfill Asad's expectations from these gifts. It shows that she really wants to make him happy but circumstances might not always work out the way Asad expects her to behave or present herself.
1. First saree: The pink saree that she was supposed to wear on Jashne Bahar ended up at the tailor and was converted into a kurti. Before that happened, Zoya did dream about a romantic dance with Asad.
Asad's expectations were crushed but Zoya went out of her way to honor his gift. She didn't even give him an explanation but once she was close to him, he really didn't care what she was wearing. With time Asad will realize that even if Zoya doesn't fit his image of the perfect wife, as long as she is with him, he would be happy.
2. The black date saree; This time she did fulfill his expectations and wear it exactly as he had visualized but, Asad fell short of his own expectations. He couldn't confess his feelings even though she looked perfect, it was a perfect ambiance and perfect opportunity. Asad will realize with time that waiting for the perfect opportunity is time lost. If he wants Zoya, every moment is special and perfect- even when she is in a mini skirt!
3. The Ghagra that he will gift her today/tomorrow: As we have seen on SBB/SBS, he will get upset with her because she wore a different outfit. Even though the new outfit is very desi and she looks like a princess, his displeasure was obvious till she came close to him. Again, Asad will have to learn to give her space. He can't expect her to do and behave the way he expects her to. She can still be elegant and desirable in her own independent way.
Three cheers for the writers for giving so much thought to these mundane gift giving scenes.
