Outspoken: Ravi Gosain

Ravi Gosain, best remembered for his roles in Gulzar's Maachis and TV serial Amaanat, has been awarded the Raj Kapoor Memorial Trophy for his acting in Chupi. The film throws light on the issue of rampant child sex abuse in India. It stars Ravi Gosain as the villain who molests his sister's daughter. Ravi had agreed to act in the film because he said that he too had been a victim of sex abuse when he was a child. 😲😭

Ravi was awarded this trophy on Wednesday at a function in Delhi by veteran actor Dharmendra. Rajeev Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor too were present at the function. Ravi says, "I was ecstatic on receiving this award. Several non government organisations in India and abroad have seen this film and appreciated it. They have seen the point we stressed in the film of acknowledging children's fears.

The Raj Kapoor Memorial Trophy is given to people from all walks of life for exceptional contribution in their respective fields."

Ravi stresses the need for society to realise that child sex abuse is for real, unlike parent's belief that it is 'a figment of their child's imagination'. He says, "The film brings this very aspect to life and makes an attempt at letting the child know the difference between a good touch and a bad one. In most cases, parents do not take the child's allegations seriously because it is unthinkable of a family member to commit such a crime. Chupi makes it clear that child sex abuse is a heinous crime."
