The curious case of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's relationship has always baffled the media. Their on-and-off friendship was a puzzle none could understand.

For the past one year there have been no news of Katrina in Salman's vicinity, she has been way too busy with Ranbir Kapoor.

After 'Ek Tha Tiger' as all their movie commitments got over the two parted ways.

News now filters that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif might share screen once again, this time apparently only for an item number.

Director Sawan Kumar has approached the former lovers to perform in an item number for the sequel of his 1983 film 'Souten'. Though there is no confirmation on that front.

If Sawan Kumar manages to bring the two together this will be their 3 item song together.

Salman obliged good friend Farah Khan and performed a song in 'Tees Maar Khan' starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina. It was time for the actress to do the honours and she appeared in an item number in Salman-Kareena's 'Bodyguard'.

Whether or not Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan are back together, it seems they're sinking their differences to benefit each other's work.

Once the two actors almost lived in each other's pocket but again there was a time when Salman Khan shunned Katrina in public.

The ultimate godfather of Bollywood, Salman has always been very protective towards his protg and Kat never forgets this weakness.

The stunner met Salman when she was a struggling model who was fresh of the disaster called 'Boom'.

The smitten Salman encouraged directors such as David Dhawan to sign on the actress to promote her in Bollywood, despite the fact that she barely spoke Hindi.

It has never been clear when they dated or when they actually parted ways.

Some time back, Katrina made a confession that was long due. After using every trick in the book to keep her romantic alliance with Bollywood's angry man Salman under wraps, and snubbing every controversy with her coy smile, Katrina Kaif has boldly owned up to her cushy clandestine love affair with the macho actor.

Of course, they are not together anymore but Katrina doesn't seem to remember it very clearly. She is always at Galaxy apartment (Salman's residence), always attending every family function of the Khans.

Katrina hangs out with the Khan Sisters and maintains her close relationship with the entire family.

There is some good news coming for all the diehard fans of Salman Khan.

Buzz has it that the Dabangg superstar might shake a leg with his former ladylove Katrina Kaifin an item song.

The song will apparently feature in director Sawan Kumar Tak's untitled film, which will be a sequel to 1983 super-hit 'Souten'.

And the rumour mongers say that the veteran filmmaker has approached both Khan and Kaif for the song.

A source close to the makers say, "Souten 2' has given us some memorable tracks including 'Shayad meri shaadi ka khayal' but the sequel will have a different kind of music."
