Khushi was smiling and laughing and then her smile fell when she heard her mother telling Payal that the wedding was going to end soon. Khushi's heart started racing. No, no, no, no!!! The wedding couldn't be over so soon because that would mean...suhaagraat! She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.
"Amma!" She called Garima and pulled her arm down so she can speak into her ear. "It's so early, why does it have to end?"
Garima looked away at Khushi like she was mad. She turned around and asked Payal for her phone. She showed it to Khushi. "Early, Khushi?" Her mother asked as they both looked at the time on the phone which read as almost three in the morning.
Khushi sunk in her chair and frowned. 'Hey Devi Maiyya, help me!!!' She pleaded on the inside. Being the traditional girl, she obviously had no experience, or knowledge, on what was to happen on the first night. Well she knew that much but she was not looking forward to it in the least. She turned towards Arnav and she almost died from blushing so hard when he winked at her.
As guests finally left, Khushi was becoming just as nervous. When everyone from her new family all got in two cars, she waited outside one. "What are you doing? Go in," Arnav said, nudging her shoulder with his.
"But...I want to go sightseeing!" She said to him with wide and hopeful eyes.
"Pagal hogaye tum? It's almost four in the morning. And in any way, we have other things to get to, Khushi," he said through clenched teeth so others didn't hear. Khushi's eyes widened. She was practically forced in the car and all the while she was chanting Devi Maiyya's name.
Finally reaching home, everyone quickly bid each other goodnight, as it was extremely late. Arnav and Khushi went into their room now and she almost fainted as she saw the decorated room. So they were expecting them to do it. She simply couldn't believe it.
Arnav turned her from her shoulder so she was facing him. "I've waited a long time for this night," he said and pulled her in for a hug. 'Really? 'Cause I can really wait for another few years,' she thought and tried to put up a fake smile when Arnav pulled away.
"Go ahead and change now," he said to her and her head snapped towards him. "Change?" She asked and Arnav was silent for a second before a smirk grew on his lips. "I know, you're expecting differently but at least wear your pajamas."
Khushi squealed. No! That's not what she was expecting at all! She turned around and slowly walked towards her bag and took her clothes with her. She went into the ensuite bathroom and locked the door behind her.
She did change out of her heavy bridal lehenga and wore a simple dark blue t-shirt and light blue bottoms. She was ready to go out but she really didn't want to. She took her phone and slid her back against the door until she sat on the floor. "Jiji!!! Save me! I don't want to do this!" She messaged her sister, eagerly waiting for a reply.
"Khushi! What are you saying? It's your suhaag raat! You have to."
Khushi almost died reading that. 'Kyunnn?' She wined internally. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she heard Arnav softly knock against the door. "Khushi, hurry up."
'Laad governor! Always his way.' She pouted her lips and put her phone away next to her. She pulled her knees up to her chest and put her forehead against them. She was so not ready for this and she simply did not want to do it. Why was it necessary to do it on the first night anyways?!
She eventually got up and made sure her hair was at least nicely done as it was left loose around her shoulders. She took her lehenga in her arms and got out of the bathroom with a frustrated Arnav on the bed. "You were in there for so long!" He complained and Khushi furrowed her eyebrows at him. 'This is good,' she thought, 'If we fight, we won't have to do anything. Ahahaha.'
"Well excuse me! Have you ever worn a lehenga? Do you know how long it takes to take off? Go! It's available now...Laad governor." She waited for him to go in before she ran to her bag to put her clothes away then pulled out one of her favorite novels and slid under the covers. Was she planning on reading on her suhaag raat? Absolutely!
Arnav came out in a brown t-shirt and black and grey-checkered bottoms. "What are you doing?" He asked, completely perplexed.
"I'm...reading. Do you not see?" Khushi asked and went back to intently reading the words on the page. Arnav's face relaxed and he went to his side of the bed, lying down next to Khushi but propping himself up with his elbow. "Not exactly what you're supposed to do on your wedding night," he said as he snatched the book from her and put it on his bedside table.
"Arnav!" Khushi cried and looked at him with fear. "What do you want from me?!"
Arnav's eyebrows shot up. "Are you seriously asking me this right now?"
Khushi was dumbstruck. What else was she to say? She quickly reacted when she saw him advancing towards her. She jumped out of the bed and staggered a bit. "I have a very bad headache. Can you get me water?"
Arnav bit his lip in annoyance but agreed anyways. He left the room and Khushi quickly got in bed again, turning off the bedside table lamps. Arnav came back up and he gaped at Khushi as her back was to him in the dark room, supposedly sleeping.
"Khushi?" He whispered as he got into his side again and when she didn't respond he shook her shoulder. She turned around, pretending to be asleep. "What's wrong?" He asked.
"Arnav, after such a long night, I'm just not in the mood to do anything. Just go to sleep," she said and turned her back again. Realization dawned on Arnav. He would have chuckled out loud but he figured that might offend her. But with a smile on his face, he laid next to her and put his arm around her waist, pulling her close to his chest. He lifted his head a bit to whisper in her ear. "It's okay, you don't have to be so nervous. We don't have to do it."
Khushi's eyes flew open and she turned around to face him. "I'm not nervous! I told you na, I'm just tired."
Arnav had an amused look on his face. "Why do you have to make up excuses? You could have said from the moment we came that you weren't ready. I'm not going to force you, Khushi. I really thought you knew me better." He said with a slight frown.
Khushi shook her head and grasped onto his arm. "No Arnav, I do know you better! I just...felt embarrassed because I'm expected to do it and whatnot."
"No, I don't expect you to do it right now and whatever others expect, who cares? You're my wife, not theirs so if I don't mind then they can't say anything."
Khushi shyly smiled and pursed her lip. "Are you sure you're not mad?"
Arnav actually chuckled this time. "I'm not mad! It's not something to get mad about. You don't have to rush into anything."
Khushi was silent for a while before she raised her head a bit and placed a kiss on Arnav's lips. She pulled back to find her husband smiling. "Aren't you bold," he joked and Khushi lightly slapped him on his cheek.
"I don't mind these parts," she whispered in his ear and Arnav raised a brow. "Acha?" He asked to make sure that she was sure. Khushi nodded her head while blushing. Arnav suddenly rolled on top of her.
"Happy suhaag raat, Khushi," he said in his irresistibly sexy voice before they proceeded into a night of innocent touches and kisses, marking their first night as a married couple.
