1. Why is it impossible to build a permanent station at the North pole?
ans. Since the ice that covers the North Pole is always on the move

2. Name the world's highest free-standing mountain.
ans. Mount Kilimanjaro

3. Which two countries will join the European Union on January 1, 2007?
ans. Romania and Bulgaria

4. If the earth's axis had no tilt, would there be seasons? If yes, how? If not,why not?
ans. If Earth's axis had no tilt, then the poles would always be in a winter (ice age) condition since during different time of the year either the northen or southern hemisphere is pointed toward the sun. Also the degree is 23 degree

5. Name the world's largest glacier outside the polar regions and describe where and how long it is.
ans. Siachen Glacier
Siachen, the world's largest glacier outside the polar regions, straddles the Himalayan territory where India, China and Pakistan collide. A spectacular river of congealed snow, the 48-mile-long Siachen forms the eastern edge of the Karakoram Mountains, where five peaks reach higher than 26,000 feet

They are well searched answers... hope they are correct.

👏 👏 Good job savie!

Correct answers. I hope you had fun looking for answers and gained more information while doing so.

1) North pole is not a mass of land. North pole comprises of the Arctic ocean partially frozen, unnlike the South Pole (antarctica), which also holds a mass of antartctica continent, apart from the antarctic ocean.

4) without the axial tilt, earth seasons would be wierd. How they would change would depend on the areas exposed to sun, while those away from it. Life that exists now, is speculated to be impossible w/o the axial tilt and the consequent seasons we enjoy now.
