Some embarrassing, some bizarre, some laughable. Even telly stars have had their share of goof ups while on dates during their teens and early adulthood. Some tube icons bare their hearts to Telly Chakkar about the faux pas they committed years ago!
"No more drunken girlfriends" - Vivan |
Vivan Bathena flushes with embarrassment while recounting his tale. "I was 17 years old. I had gone for a date with a girl to this disc next to Sterling cinema in Mumbai. She was this sweet little girl that I was waiting for with dreams in my eyes but it ended in a nightmare. She ended up drinking more than me, at least five to six pegs of alcohol. She was completely drunk, and to top it all, she made me spend 3,000 bucks on her drinks. It was raining heavily when I went to drop her home, and just while I was parking the car I bumped into a cab. And all the while I was arguing with the driver, my girlfriend was fast asleep in the car! Somehow I woke her up, managed to make her drink lots of water, get her in half senses and ran for my life," he chuckles with embarrassment.
If Vivan may never have dated anyone else who adores her glass more than her guy, then there also those whose girlfriends turn into knights in shining armour in inept situations. "My girl friend was my saviour once," recollects the charming Manav Gohil, who's now happily married to the vivacious Shweta Kawatra. "There were no night clubs in Baroda around 10- 12 years ago. It was this Christmas party that was organised by my friends and I wore a three-piece suit and went on

my bike to pick up my girl. She started giggling when she saw me in the suit. Nevertheless, we reached the party and to my horror, I saw all my friends in casuals - I was the only odd one out! I felt really awkward. However, my girlfriend kept telling me that I was looking cute, which was a relief. But it's an incident I really cannot forget. Thinking of it really makes me laugh."
"Can you imagine what I must have gone through when I took Gurdip out to this very expensive restaurant and ordered food as if I was dying of hunger! I ordered everything on the menu and when the bill came, I fumbled with my pocket only to realise that I had forgotten my wallet. I suddenly had these images of washing plates and utensils in the hotel kitchen. And worse, I was worried about what she would think of me. Luckily, my star status saved my day. They obliged me by not billing me, but I made sure to go back in the evening and pay the bill."
No fall from grace-Delnaz |
If guys have their tales to tell, girls aren't far behind. The bubbly Delnaz Paul recollects an interesting incident when she was dating hubby Rajiv Paul. "I had gone out with Rajiv to a disc and we were dancing to some rock music. Suddenly, I slipped on the floor while dancing. It was so embarrassing. For that split second, I thought he would be laughing at me; I didn't even have the guts to look up. Finally, I got up, looked around, only to see Rajiv fooling around with other girls. He didn't even realise that I had slipped… I had these mixed feelings of anger and amusement because he was having a ball with some other girls while I had a fall. Nonetheless, I was glad that he did not realise it. It was such an awkward situation. However, years later when I told him, he was really stunned!" says the ever smiling Delnaz..
