tum takalluf ko bhi ikhlaas samajhte ho, 'Faraz'
dost hotaa naheen har haath milaane waalaa

meaning :

takalluf: formalities, societal norms of behavior

ikhlaas: sincere, pure friendship; deep affection

.this couplet is by Ahmed Faraz.

Although this thread is not related directly related to music , iam opening this to present a viewpoint on couplets taken from Urdu poetry.The old style of shayris has been heard and re-heard, quote and re-quoted so often that it has lost its bite. It is no longer possible for a poet to write poetry in the classical style and still maintain even a modicum of freshness.Some couplets are such that their meaning does not jump out at you immediately; they require a few seconds of attentive thinking after you have heard the sher ... to understand what the poet is trying to say...

Please write shers ..following some rules.....

1.It should not be longer then 2- 8 lines..

2. It doesnt have to be your creation , infact it wil be nice to quote the famous ones but only one thing please write the explaination or views why you like that particuler nazam..

3.take one word out of the previous sher and use it..to write

4. You can dedicate that to anyone...( virtual or real freinds) 😉

5. name of the poet will be nice..

Saari kaynaat tere kadmo mai rakhke
Tujhse mohabat hai tujhko bataunga kabhi.
Tere mere darmiyan fiza bhi na hogi.
Ek din najro mai tujhko is tarah bithaunga kabhi

since noone is participating rightnow..I thought of writing some of the more familier ones. the one below is the poetry before the song in the movie
'Kabhi Kabhi' which is superbly recited by Amitabh Bachchan....
Here is the original 'kabhi kabhi'..The words used in the movie were simpler

'kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai
ke zindagi teri zulfon ki narm chaon mein
guzarne pati to SHADAB ho bhi sakti thi
ye TIRAGI jo mere ZIST ka muqaddar hai
teri nazar ki shuaon mein kho bhi sakti thi

SHADAB=fresh,delightful

TIRAGI=darkness
ZIST=life

ajab na tha ke main BEGANA-ILM hokar
tere JAMAL ki RANAION mein kho rahta
tera GADAZ badan teri NEEM BAAZ aankhen
inheen haseen fasanon mein moh hoh rahta

BAGANA=not related,stranger
ILM=knowledge   ;

JAMAL =beauty
RANAION=grace,elegance

GADAZ=soft( not sure)
NEEM=middle

BAAZ=player

will write the rest too..if anyone see the translation is not right feel free to correct it.

the poet Abdul Hameed 'Adam' explains his "shamelessness".

shaayad mujhe nikaal ke pachhtaa rahin hon aap
mahfil mein is Khayaal se phir aa gayaa hoon main....

someone has asked me about the sher in my siggy... 😛

"yeh dhuaan kam ho to pahchaan ho mumkin, shaayad
yoon to woh jaltaa huaa apnaa hi ghar lagtaa hai"

the poet is Ejaaz Aazar.
It talks about that there is a point, beyond which the pain ceases to hurt any more and one becomes numb to it...
one is reduced to becoming a dispassionate observer of one's own destruction!!!!!

Bade ajeeb hain ye zindagi ke raaste, anjane mod par kuchh log dost ban jate hain,
milne ki khushi de ya na de bichhadne ka gam zarur de jate hain.
