Malaika Arora Khan talks on the private and professional sides of her life to Rachana Dubey. She brought in her birthday with her family in Mumbai and also on the sets the TV show Nach Baliye 2. Her birthday she says is wrongly mentioned as August 23 all across the internet by MTV. It's actually October 23. While Malaika Arora Khan attends to her three-year-old son Arhaan, I switch on the dictaphone: You've never talked about your equation with your mothers-in-law — Salma Khan and Helen. I'm the luckiest bahu on earth. Both my mothers-in-law are selfless and large-hearted, they're sister-like. Helenji often jokingly says we're the Catholic representatives in the house. I've always wanted to do her songs on record. My personal favourites are Yeh mera dil and Mehbooba mehbooba. Don't you think the careers of your husband Arbaaz and sister Amrita could have shaped up better? Yeah, they could have. Arbaaz knows how to take disappointments in his stride. He has five brilliant films to look forward to. And Malaamal Weekly was good. Amu is still a baby. She's pulled up her socks, she's wised up after making some wrong choices. I'm sure they'll get their dues very soon. Why didn't you ever take up full-fledged roles? I was doing television. I didn't get the kind of roles I wanted to do. Then I became a mother and I didn't want to act full-time. If I'd taken up acting 24 x7, it could have affected my marriage. Who's a better co-judge — Kunal Kohli or Farhan Akhtar from the last edition of Nach Baliye? (Laughs) I'd say both. I've known Farhan professionally. Last season, we had great fun on the show. When I got to know that he wasn't on the show this season, I felt bad. I thought I'd miss him. Surprisingly Kunal and I've hit it off really well. I like his company too. What else are you doing besides the TV show? I'm planning to open a restaurant and start my own fashion label by 2007. I also want to build a farmhouse for my family. What if you hadn't been a model at all? Then... I would have been a child psychologist. I was studying at Jai Hind college before I started modelling. I'm always good with children. I would have been associated with children in one way or the other. Weren't you supposed to be in an Indo-French film? That's right. It's still in the pipeline, it's been delayed by a year. It was a huge project, it would have taken me to a different level altogether. When do you see Salman Khan marrying? All of us in the family would like to see him settled. None of us can answer this question for him. If you ask me, he would be a perfect family man. d_rachana@dnaindia.net |
