Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in the case involving him in death due to road rage 18 years ago. He was also fined Rs one lakh and were directed to furnish a bail bond on or before December 8.

Salman Khan is roaming scot-free even after killing so many people. He needs to be charged of two major offenses DUI and road rage.

If celebrities are punished then we argue that they are easy victim because of their stardom. Are they? Does doing charity work erase their previous crime?

Do we need to SMS and create sensation like in Mattoo case to get justice?

Maya_Mji what is the exact meaning of the phrase you have used "Kya kanoon ke haath lambe hote hain?" The two examples you have cited Siddhu and Salman suggest a)that you mean "lambe" because it takes the law in India forever to get to trial and sentencing; or b) that you mean "lambe" because no matter the length of time the law eventually catches up with the criminal.

The two cases you have cited suggest a) as stated above. The real issue that should be raised here is not "kanoon keh lambe haat a or b" but why are some people above Kanoon's Haath and why others are being drowned by the same Kanoon's Haath. There is a vast array of crimes being perpetuated at any given moment. The only thing relevant and constant in all the crimes big or small is that the law is being broken in some way shape or form, and someone is being victimized.

That being said everyone who has committed a crime should be treated equally, celebrity or not in the eyes of the "Kanoon." However the punishment should be consistent and fitting the crime. In your cited cases the two should face the same music if proven guilty beyond a shadow of doubt as any other person from the aam junta would for similar crimes.

However there is another case that of Sanjay Dutt. Sure he was convicted for violating the laws relating to "illegal possession of arms," but a) this was his first crime, b) he did not kill anyone using the illegal weapons, c) he has already served a 18 month sentence. Given that he should be given a suspended sentence and community service to be completed within a prescribed time frame. That would be fitting punishment and he would not be above and beyond the "kanoon's haath," unlike the Laloo's, Rabdi's, Rahul Mahajan's and hundreds of other politicians, civil servants and what have you. I would like to believe that the courts have not been touched by the ways of the Laloo's, Rabdi's, Rahul Mahajan's and hundreds of other politicians, civil servants and what have you. So lets really create a riot of SMS's and round up everyone in one fell swoop.

That is my two cents worth of wisdom. I rest my case councilor.

'Salman's a habitual criminal'
[14 Apr, 2006 l 2109 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK]
Salman Khan is a free man today. We bring you two sides of the story post this development.

Animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi, who called Salman Khan's conviction in poaching case "a step in the right direction" is very disappointed. "I am very disappointed that Salman has been granted bail.

This is not for the first time that he is in the spotlight for poaching. There have been three such incidents till now. Therefore, he can be termed a habitual criminal. I am sure even after he serves his punishment, he will continue doing the same."

To some extent, Maneka holds loopholes in the law responsible for Salman's bail. "How can Salman be given bail? If he had been convicted for less than two years then bail would have been a possibility. But if I know the law correctly, bail cannot be given if imprisonment exceeds five years."

She also compares the Jessica Lall and the poaching case. "We keep talking about Jessica Lall's case. She didn't get justice because powerful people were involved there. And every time this happens in India, the case is either closed or the result is not logical," she says.

To drive home the point, Maneka compares the treatment meted out to poacher Sansar Chand and MAK Pataudi. "Sansar Chand has been in the jail for three years now and the trial is still going on. Compare it to Salman's three days in custody after being convicted. Or, for that matter, Pataudi who was not even present in the court when the bail hearing was on. Does this make any sense?"

Now, she wants nothing less than complete justice. "I disagree with the current judicial system. If we can punish a rapist in three weeks then we can also come to a conclusion in Salman and Pataudi cases," she asserts.
