DEEPALI DHINGRA
When Sony's Aisa Des Hai Mera went on air, the audience was suprised to see a blond protagonist who begins her journey from London. But soon, the audience came to love Rusty, the character played so convincingly by Saumya Tandon. And now that the show's coming to an end, Saumya says that she's sad about leaving the show that gave her so much popularity, but also looking forward to the future. "It's strange to realise that one day, I will get up and won't have to play Rusty anymore. I had almost started living that character and everybody had started calling me by that name," she smiles. There had been some rumours about Saumya feeling awkward towards her on-screen husband Gaurav Chopraa. "Maybe it was like that in the beginning but as we spent lot more time with each other, we got a lot more comfortable. We shared a professional relationship," she says firmly. Now that the serial's getting over, Saumya's all set to take a month long break and head to London. "Half my family stays there and also, I'll be taking part in some acting workshops with the Indian communities settled there," she adds. Although she hasn't signed any new serial yet, Saumya's on the lookout for a good role. "I feel Indian TV has got regressive. Earlier, there were such interesting and memorable shows like Tenalirama and Malgudi Days which people still remember," she says. But Saumya says that she's open to television offers as it has an amazing reach. "It's popular and it's lucrative," she adds. The pretty young lady is even considering siging on the dotted line for a Telugu film. "I was a bit apprehensive about the language problem but then, there have been so many Bollywood actors who're doing regional films. The offer's still open, so let's see," she says. And with regional films happening, can Hindi films be far behind? "I would love to do a Hindi film, but I want it to be a good banner. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that," she adds. But Saumya's clear about one thing— "No exposing or kissing scenes for me!"
