Tribute to a Mother

She was a mother whose world revolved around her sons but particularly her Yash.

All she cared for was for him to be happy.

She pushed Yash into marrying Aarti hoping that Aarti would bring back happiness in his life. She expected Aarti to bring about a miracle as soon as she stepped into Yash's life. And when that did not happen she made Aarti's life a living hell. But as time went by she learnt to respect Aarti for her tenacity, her perseverance and her never say die attitude- sometimes it was grudgingly but many times it was with sincerity. She is probably the only character in the show who has apologized to Aarti for treating her badly (during the Mumbai track when Aarti takes the kids and goes and stays with the Dubeys).

She lost her way as a mother towards the end of her life by ill-treating the very son she lived for. Yet, as she faced death, she realized the one truth that would give her peace till eternity. A mother's love cannot and should not be tainted by the differences society creates between the natural and the adopted. And that no matter what Yash was truly her son.

She dies in the arms of her son realizing that no one could love her as much as Yash did. No one could be devoted to her as much as Yash was. No one would give his life for her like her Yash would. He gave her immense love and respect when she was alive and he would give her soul immense peace when she died.

Since its mother's day tomorrow I thought it was fitting that we paid her a tribute for the mother she was. Gayatri, a mother who can be obsessed in her son's love but when she loved, she loved with every fiber of her being. She will always be remembered fondly by us viewers. ❤️

@Naeema, yes missing Gayatri so very much. And Shobha too. They were such vital characters who provided strength to their children Yash and Aarti but brought pain to their children as well.

Kirthi...That was simply beautiful. 👏

Gayatri was one character who always made us oscillate between like and dislike only because of her originality. She made us make an effort to understand her and when we did we couldn't help but admire her tenacity for holding her own in the dictatorial set up that she belonged to. In her, Aarti found a mother who not only pointed out her flaws but also extended her hand of caring and her trust in her capability. They enjoyed a unique relationship of mutual respect and underlined love. Thereby toward the end when the mother faltered, the daughter extended her hand to steady her...which the former understood on her deathbed, when the old-school mother bypassed hierarchy and chose capability when she passed the baton to Aarti and not Vidhi.

So beautifully said, Indu.

Few of my favorite Gayatri-Aarti scenes would be when Gayatri tells Aarti that she understands if she slept with Aman because she knows Yash hasn't 'provided' for her as a husband should. 😆

And then when Ansh is kidnapped by Dubey, Gayatri goes and tells Aarti that she has other kids to care for.

Ohh, and the scene where Gayatri sings the bhajan and she falters and Aarti helps her out.

Also the scene where she says sorry to Aarti when Aarti leaves with the kids to Dubeys house. And finally like you said, it was to Aarti she passed the baton.

And how fitting it was that in the last episode in that moment when Aarti sat in the darkness staring at her and Yash's picture holding baby Aayu, she remembered her promise to Gayatri that she would keep this family intact. Yup, they sure shared a unique relationship.

So beautifully written...truly miss g3maa...never thought I'd feel this way but she was one who tried till the end to remain true to her feelings...
I loved the fact that once she knew Aarti cared/loved Yash, she gave her full support to her...she was the only one who apologised to Aarti for her behaviour...once in Dubeys'house and at her deathbed...
Miss you Gayathri maa!!!!!!
