Jyoti pushed open the door to Dhruv's room and called, "Dhruv?" She looked around the room to not see her dear son anywhere. "Where is this boy?" She asked herself out loud and soon enough she got her answer.
"I am out here mom."
Jyoti walked towards the glass door and pushed it open to see his son sitting on the patio chair in his balcony. She shivered as she spoke, "What are you doing out here? It's freezing cold, come inside before you get sick."
Dhruv looked up, "I am fine and nothing will happen."
Jyoti starred at him and raised her brows. He sighed and got up to walk in. Once inside he plopped down on his bed and hid his face into one of the pillows. His mother sat down besides him and pulled the pillow away from his grasp. "Why do I come home to find that my son had not gone to college today?"
Dhruv groaned, "Because your son didn't have any classes today."
"That's a lie," Jyoti announced, "You have classes Monday through Thursday. You don't have any on Fridays and yet you go on that day to hang out with friends and do whatever else you need to. Saying that today is not Friday either."
"I just didn't feel like. Have you seen how cold it is outside?"
Jyoti stifled a giggle, "Says the guy who was just outside saying he was fine by sitting in the cold."
Dhruv sighed and pulled the pillow from his mother and kept it under his head he slept facing up. "I don't know I just felt like being lazy today."
Jyoti narrowed her eyes at him. Since when did her son started putting off his studies and works because he was lazy. Yes, he would procrastinate but not just call off the day. "This is the first and last time you get to do that. Next time you don't go to college because you just feel like being lazy then you will be in trouble."
Dhruv looked at her and smiled. Her trouble was seriously not as bad as she made it sound. She could never actually get severely angry at him. "I would love to get in trouble from you. I actually want to see your capacity on what you will do and thus I should probably skip one more day of classes huh?"
Jyoti smacked his forehead before getting up, "I will go get dinner ready for you. Freshen up."
Before she made any distance between them he sat up and pulled her. "Mom, do you think Antara really considers me her best friend."
"Why would you ask that?" Jyoti turned around to face her son.
Turns out, Ishika's entry into their life has started making everyone question their status with Antara. Dhruv thought back to the conversation he had with Ishika when he was going to drop her off on New Year. She had said, "Then you don't know her at all." When he reminded her he was her best friend too, Ishika had mentioned, "Maybe that's because we know each other longer."
Was that true? Did it really made a difference in his friendship with Antara then hers with Ishika because of how long you know each other. All he can remember is the moment he met Antara the two clicked together. He would confide in Antara all the time. Besides Yash, she was his "person" with whom he could share even if he commits a crime. Antara was always there for him too, just like he was then why is Ishika making him question his friendship. Why does all of a sudden everything seems as if it's all new and he was sleeping till now just to wake up to realize it was all a dream.
"Dhruv?" Jyoti called pulling him out of his thoughts.
"Huh?" he gave her a blank look.
"Why would you ask that?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "It's just that there is this girl who is her best friend since childhood and she just came in to town and she knows things about Antara more them any of us. Even Antara spends time with her more than she ever did with us."
Jyoti smiled, "You just said it. It's her childhood friend. They have made so many memories together. Also, you said she just came in town don't you think if you left from here and came back after long time you will have lots of catching up to do with Antara? They both are just getting back and knowing each other more. There is nothing wrong in that."
Dhruv smiled and simply nodded. He didn't want to say that he feels this way because he is rich and Antara might be distancing because she is not. He reasoned himself saying Ishika was rich too. After all he had seen her house when he had dropped her. It was a luxurious bungalow, no doubt Ishika was rich and still Antara was spending most of her time with her. 'May be mom is right, they just met after long time and are catching up,' He said to himself mentally.

Ishika plopped down on her bed with a full smile. She starred up at the ceiling, eyes twinkling. She can't wait to go to college tomorrow and tell Antara that her uncle had approved for her to work at caf, after a lot of convincing from her part.
She can't think of the last time when she had to convince so much to get something. Over a year she has been by herself, with no one to stop her. To think of it, even her parents had tried their best to get her anything she wished for; she just had to voice her desires. She was definitely not the princess where she could snap her fingers and her wishes will come true. It would take time, but in the end her parents had always got her wishes fulfilled.
At the moment, nothing mattered. She had nearly speed-dialed Antara but then realizing that she was working she put the phone away. She frowned, May be I can go to the caf right now and start.
She kept on starring at the ceiling that was the color of the sky ' if the fan and bright lights were not up there one would have thought it was an open roofed room ' as if it would answer her. She sighed and sat up deciding she would just wait till tomorrow. Besides, Antara will first have to talk with her dad.
She pulled out her books and started on her homework. No one would tell that the semester had just started with the speed her professors were covering all the content. As if the world was coming to end and they wanted to drill all the knowledge into student's brain before they all died. Ishika rolled her eyes at the thought. How can all the studies be of any use if we were to die soon? She turned on her laptop and started on the research for her first speech that she had to make in her public communication class next week. For a moment she thought of doing a speech on the very topic: Professors should teach on a pace where students can keep up with them, other wise it feels as if they want the students to fail their class so that they will have to re-take it giving the end result ' more money in professor's pocket.
"That actually is not a bad topic," She said out loud, and then smirking she wrote in the heading with her beautiful scripted handwriting. Education today is nothing but a way to make money in a 'sane' way.
And so, she got her topic for her very first speech at her new university. Instantly her mind popped up with ideas, she had so much to say, but composed herself. She could not state her thoughts out or else she would be kicked out by the very same education system that will one day make her a Web Designer. Which, she could not afford to do. Thus, researching on incidents she started working out her words in a proficient way, a way that would earn her a grade and also get her point across.
It was definitely going to be hard, considering once she had something to say she would say it as it was. Not caring if she would be offending anyone. Truth was simply a truth to her and once someone started using good tools and resources for their personal gain she hated it. She wished college was like school, where teachers are devoted to what they are willing to give instead of giving lectures to hall full of students where you didn't even know who you were exactly teaching.

Yash slid in on the bench on the other side of table. Dhruv looked up for a brief second and then went back to squinting at something on his laptop screen.
"What are you doing?" Yash asked irritated that his presence didn't made much of a difference.
"Unlike you trying to look up something that could interest me to choose as a topic for the speech, but clearly I am not coming up with anything."
Yash groaned, "We don't have to talk until next week."
"True, but our topics are due tomorrow and they have to be approved by the professor what ever his name is."
Letting out another groan, Yash put his head down on the table. It was chilly outside and everyone was rushing to go in to the warmth of the building but the boys carelessly sat at the picnic table in middle of the garden with wet morning grass underneath their feet.
Dhruv looked up, "Let me guess, you haven't found a topic yet."
Yash shook his head, his forehead rolled from one side to another and back forth at the base of the table. When he didn't lift his head up, Dhruv went back to his work. It was clear; Yash was not going to disturb him anymore.
Not Yash then the disturbance came from some one else. Jayraj and Nikita came up. Nikita slid in besides Dhruv and Jayraj sat down across from her.
Nikita frowned stomping at the grass.
"What did the poor Nature did to you?" Dhruv asked.
"It's wet, and my leather boots and going to get soaked not to mention giving me more chills."
Jayraj rolled his eyes, "They are just boots you can buy a new pair."
Nikita made a face and pulled up her feet over the rod under the table just few inches above the ground. She was wearing brown winter boots. She didn't think that mentioning they were more than just boots to her would make any difference for Jayraj so she turned to Dhruv and asked, "Why are you two even sitting out here?"
Dhruv sighed, "It's naturally quiet out here considering no one wants to stay and freeze to death."
"Are you saying you are trying to freeze to death?" Jayraj asked, "Along with Yash."
"I am never going to get you two," Nikita commented. "You both seriously don't seem to care for your health."
Dhruv starred at the screen as if he was reading the article pulled up. Lately he had been staying out in the cold a lot more. It's not like cold didn't have any effect on him, but he was also born here in the cold region thus he could stand it for certain period. At the moment he was freezing. He could not feel his fingers and he was sure his face might look ashen because he had come to college way before anyone and was nearly sitting on that spot for little over an hour now.
Even after Jyoti's assurance last night, he woke up today with doubts running in his mind along with other things that he could not make out. He was not sure what was happening but all of a sudden he didn't seem to be Dhruv he knew his whole life. His mind and heart were at constant war over topics he was not even sure how he was related to.
Cold seemed to not only numb his fingers, but also make his brain-freeze giving him a moment of peace to not give the ability to think much. If his eyes blurred then he would blame it on cold, giving him assurance that he was not feeling as if he was tortured with useless things. Cold was his excuse to pacify himself that he is just imagining and stressing because everything is plain old white around him.
"Then who asked you to come out here since you clearly care for your health."
Nikita and Jayraj starred at him and in turn he was still starring at the screen.
Jayraj responded quickly as Nikita was still shocked at Dhruv. It was unlike him to snap on such a light matter. "Look dude, we were just walking by and saw you two so came by to '"
Dhruv interrupted in his normal voice, "Well then ask Yash if he wants to go along. I am staying here for a little while longer."
Yash finally lifted his head up. "You guys go along. I will just come with Dhruv."
Nikita shrugged her shoulders and got up. Even if Yash had not said so, she was not planning on staying out in the cold. Jayraj followed after her.
Yash looked at Dhruv. He didn't care if he looked creepy but he was not going to look away until his friend responded. Clearly, his slip in tone had not gone unnoticed.
After fifteen whole minutes Dhruv slammed his laptop shut and asked, "What?"
Yash raised his brows, "You are seriously asking that to me?"
Dhruv sighed, "I just got irritated by the interruption and more over I was mad because I was actually trying to do something important and '"
"I get it," Yash interrupted. "You were trying to think of a solid topic. But, that was not you. You don't snap at some one because you can't think of something. May be you should have sat in a warm place where your brain would not get cold giving itself more chance to thinking better."
Dhruv tightened his jaw. He was angry, he was angry at himself. Yash was right. It was not like him to raise his voice because he can't get something done. More over he was sitting outside in the aim that his brain would stop functioning for a while and isn't that what he got in the end. It was really not working because he could not think clearly.
"What's wrong?"
Dhruv looked at Yash, of course he would know that something was wrong. He wanted to tell him but kept his lips sealed.
"Seriously, there is something wrong. You are freezing out here but still rooted on that bench and pretending to study when you clearly didn't care to come to college yesterday. On top you ignored all my calls because you knew I would ask you to tell me."
"You know why I ignored your calls then why are you asking me now?"
"Simple. Because you are my friend."
Dhruv got up and slipping the laptop into his back pack he answered, "Nothing important."
When Yash didn't get up he sighed, "I swear if I continue this behavior than I will tell you till then it's nothing."
Yash shook his head and stood up, "You are going to tell me, if not now then later."
Both strolled away towards the atrium. Dhruv knew his friend was right, even if things didn't matter he will tell them to Yash but this time he was going to wait till the anxiety passed away. So, that he could mention what an idiot he was.
