Salman Khan follows Aamir Khan; set to complete 25 years in Bollywood
As a matter of fact this has been the recurring motif of the films in which Salman Khan has acted, or the films which have become blockbusters, most of his films have factored in the nuances of the small cities of India, and have in one way or the other pandered to the subtle memories which have been part of the growing ethos of the common man on the street, no wonder his next blockbuster HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN also was a film that weaved a patina of magic around the social norms of the small cities. Here small cities would not mean cities in terms of geographical spaces only, but cities that connote warmth, care and vibrancy, and it could be a part of manifestation of big cities as well.
Milestones in a career are an occasion for celebration, and this was perhaps the reason why Aamir Khan who otherwise is not much inclined to associate with the celebrations, also dropped his hair down and celebrated the occasion of his completion of 25 years in Hindi cinema by tracing the occasion through the successful release of QSQT 25 years ago. His other contemporary, Salman Khan, whom Aamir without any inhibition calls as the real star, would also be completing his 25 years of association with the world of Hindi cinema.
Salman Khan as a star in his cinematic journey has redefined the contours of entertainment and created new flag posts for others to follow. He may not have had a good debut with a film like BIWI HO TO AISI but with his second film MAINE PYAR KIYA, he developed new paradigms of romance, and kindled latent aspirations of the lovers, who might have given it a soft burial faced with harsh realities, which blossomed again. As Sooraj R. Barjatya in one of his interviews had remarked, the USP of Salman lays in the fact that he comes alive in the presence of the camera, and MAINE PYAR KIYA was the first blockbuster in the early nineties. During those days, it indeed was a celebration of romance catalyzed by this film, manifest from the fact that in towns like Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur etc.,.which were conservative two decades ago, ladies were found falling in line to buy the tickets for the film. Few cinema halls in fact carved out separate windows for ladies to get the tickets.
