From playing a docile daughter-in-law inTeen Bahuraaniyan to a deadly vamp in Qubool Hai. Your telly trek has undergone quite a dramatic turn.
I didn't want to do only positive roles on TV. There should be new benchmarks set in an actor's life. And when I came across the opportunity of playing a negative character in Qubool Hai, I took it up gladly. I am happy to have taken this decision. Play a positive character on TV and you will be seen crying forever on screen, which I didn't want to do. There are emotions other than crying which are definitely worth giving a try. It's not that playing a negative role which has villainy come full throttle is an easy alternative to remain on TV. To play a negative character with conviction requires a lot of guts and the capability to act.
Were you apprehensive of doing a negative role since the audience always feels sympathetic towards positive characters?
I didn't think twice before doing the role because I knew Gul Khan as I had worked with her earlier. There are two ways of looking at things. There is importance of the good because bad exists. No doubt, by playing a negative character you tend to draw the audience's wrath. I even get the news of fans of the show demanding omission of my character because it's too negative. So long as there is a negative character, there is interest in the story. It evokes lot of emotions - anger and to a certain extent sympathy, among the audience. Even though I get hate mails, viewers' compliments motivate me.
Are you finding it difficult to balance work with home since you are married now?
Nothing has changed. The routine remains the same. However, I am no longer the same Amrapali that I used to be. I moved to my in-laws' place post marriage. I was so nervous during that time about the changes in my life. There were feelings of 'oh, no, I am not going to live the life of a free bird, now that I am getting married,' and so on. But gradually, everything settled well.
Do you feel conscious before taking up roles on TV?
More than the length of the role, the outcome and feedback is what I think of before nodding aYES to the role. I have such a supporting husband and in-laws that whatever decision I make, gets me lot of encouragement from them. Yash gives me lot of compliments on my performance in shows. My in-laws are pretty cool too and not like typical in-laws. My mom-in-law takes care of minute things that I need and sees to it that I don't even do a single chore at home. She liked my role of Matsya Kanya in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. Her constructive feedback motivates me a lot.
