Mona Singh alias Jassi's off-screen intelligence is in no measure less than the character Jasmeet Walia that she portrays onscreen in the popular teleserial 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi' on Sony Entertainment Channel. She cooled tempers when media persons fought over camera space by labelling the embarrassment as a ''show of the serial's popularity''. It not only calmed them (mediapersons) but brought guffaws, that endeared the small screen's most celebrated icon. She was in the city today for a shooting spree of the serial. The shot was canned around her co-star Armaan Suri alias Apoorva Agnihorti, popping a surprise by proposing marriage to Jassi, on the Walia family's thanksgiving visit to the Golden Temple. Jassi, daughter of Col Jasbir Singh and Rajinder Kaur, says it was a ''mere stumble'' into the office of the producer that struck gold for her acting career. But Apoorva, her co-star, finds the film industry a ''ruthless place'' after his famous screenplay father Gian Dev Agnihotri's demise. The star of hit film ''Pardes'' by Subhash Ghai, Aproova, a BA-Economics, would have preferred to be a pilot than an actor. Criticised for his effeminate hairstyle in the serial, the struggle in his acting career has been long and tough owing to his poor PR (Public Relations), which is construed as 'arrogance', he claims. Jassi, a Pune lass with a B.Com and MBA degree, who would have gladly been a secretary in an MNC if not Jassi, feels her role in Jassi... based on hit Spanish tele-serial 'Beaty La Fae', was a step to achieve larger dream — may be even Hollywood! From modeling for Asian Paints, Liril and LG Electronics to TV's icon she has already signed feature film 'Mein To Chala' by Bobby Pushkaran, producer of latest hit film ''Page-3''. Being a Punjabi she is open to offers to work in Punjabi films. However her proudest moment other than compering some top award shows dressed as the 'dowdy Jassi', was the memorable September day in 2004 when the Indian Postal Department released commemorative stamps on the serial. The 'Jassi-Clothesline by famous designer Satya Paul and recently released book 'Jassi's seven steps to success' are other happy occasions for someone who has had a 360-episode successful run on TV for the last two years.
That her voice modulation left much to be desired after a dream profile change-over in the serial was explained, as 'cinematic liberty' that is often taken in the make believe world of glamour.
