Its strange that the general opinion in the forum seems to be that madhu should not 'deceive' Radha, or Bittuji.
How is that possible? I mean how is it possible to deceive these two? There is a technicality to deceiving.. before that comes conviction. RK is the one primary target of her deception , and not Radha or Bittuji. Its RK who as been asking him to prove her love, her fidelity her loyalty.
So how do Radha and Bittuji not come in this picture of deception? that's cause, they are the ones who in a very shamefully weak moment, tried their best to force her into giving RK a chance.
Radhaji , i still can understand why she did it. That is because she has always been weak. Not once in all those years when RK held her responsible for the misery in his life did she try to correct him or defend herself and her decision as a lone widow who was left alone with a boy to take care of. She let him throw his tantrums and never grow up. She acted like she really shouldn't have remarried , and that's bull.. anyway.
yes, maybe for a moment there she did understand what Madhu must feel as a woman, but that weak weak character won over the 'woman with integrity', and she gave in to emotionally forcing Madhu into forgoing her self respect for her errant wayward son, once again.
But Bittuji.. him I cannot forgive so easy. He had shown glimpses of having a spine. and then suddenly he wanted Madhu to forgive his chief cause his chief apparently is deep in love , only doesn't know how to show it?! When Bittuji? When did you realize , in all that psychotic bullying, that its all love indeed?
That Day Bittu had said that his chief was' miserable without his bhabhiji. he suffered a lot.' really?! Rk suffered? how? when? the moment he realized he may be missing her, he went ahead to make her life even more miserable .. and then when he had the slightest notion that she may be moving on, he carried her home despite her vehement protests. So when in all this did he suffer?
Yeh , if you mean he made the others suffer cause of his unpredictable and volatile temper, then yeh, maybe everyone around him suffered. But when has rk suffered?! A couple of nightmares , and breaking furniture in rage isn't suffering by any measure!
So.. Radha, and Bittu know very well the ordeal Madhu went through all because of RK. Yet ,instead of supporting her against him(a couple of slaps when RK really deserved it, doesn't cut it in the general scheme of things gone awry in that house cause of that man), they gave in to their weak moments, surrendered their spines and once again want to let the man scott free. They have been doing this for years, bending backwards to accommodate his whims and his ever inflating ego.
Radha and Bittu chose to be spectators, to be on the side lines. When they themselves chose to do just that, then none of Madhu's actions can be associated with them directly. You cant fight a spectator. You DON'T fight a spectator. You fight an opponent, and if their supporters get hurt, what can the contender do?
Madhu , the character, is already feeling the guilt but I think she should not. At some point she needs to learn from her faux-husband and think about herself. Radha and Bittu are old enough to bear the consequences of their decisions and actions. as if RK(but that's an entirely different debate).
Madhu should realize that her mother and she are right in fighting for her self respect. and even Radha should have supported her without bias.
If RK needs to learn a hell of a lot, his mother too leaves much to be desired. The son takes after his mother in a very similar yet contradictory and aggressive fashion. Yet the lesson reamins the same for them both.
And Madhu needs to stop feeling guilty over silly rituals and superficial expectations gone wrong.
(I sometimes imagine what Radha and Bittu's advice would have been had Madhu really been her daughter and his sister.)
(Constructive argument is very welcome. kindly keep fanaticism away. and converse civilly.)
