The first set begins with the car that we saw looming in the distance swerving to a halt on a dirt track - AK's driving the car. Then we get thrown into a series of flashes: Prithvi's at the engagement looking as miserable as hell. KS is in the locked room swaying under the influence of the thug gas. AK is frantically searching amongst the dirt, amongst the shipyard containers, climbing up to their tops, running in desperation. There is party music in the background. And it's this music that is the background of the flashes between miserable Prithvi, swooning KS, frantic AK who shouts out her name in that deep voice, which rings nto the night, with no response in return.
(Very nicely done, IMHO, very effective to mix soft party music with dark desperate searches in the night...)
AK's opening containers, banging against metal, when suddenly he notices KS' bag and cellphone in the dirt on the ground. He checks the phone, and notices that it's got missed calls, all from Prithvi. And in such a sensible move for a serial/movie, he calls Prithvi! And tells him where he is. Back at the party, everything spins to a stop when Prithvi shouts out "WHAT??!" and we cut back to:
AK standing at the door of the chemical factory and he runs in. Very soon he's at the nasty door with the nasty lock and the nasty timer that is now saying "12 seconds". (BTW, that is one very strange timer, or there are X-files type alien time loss situations in KYPH! The way it jumps from 12 minutes to 4 minutes is freaky!) He beats at the door with his bare hands, with an old pipe, and then - he gets that old "thinking AK" look on his face. He runs into the distance and at a rush, kicks down the door! The evil gas comes pouring out, and he rushes in yelling his beloved's name. He bends down in the smoke, we see a pair of hands come around his shoulders like they always belonged there, and he's lifting her in a hurry out into the air.
He cradles her head and she is completely unconscious. He is getting frantic, sprinkling her face with water from a jar that has magically appeared at his side (sort of like the phone that worked! -- either this is actually a magical, mystical factory or it's the KYPH writers being overworked again!!!). For a moment, I thought he'd do mouth-to-mouth rescucitation :-) but she stirs. His heart leaps and his face smiles. And that smile vanishes just as quickly. He has a flashback to the chandelier-falling incident where she shouted that she'd rather die than have him touch her to save her and he doesn't know what to do with himself. He looks to the left, looks to the right, uncomfortably like a cornered animal here :-( and gets himself away from under her. As he's slowly edging away though, she stirs, fully awake and conscious and looks straight at him! He freezes like a deer caught in a car headlights as their eyes lock. He's panicked beyond thought.
She is uncomprehending as she looks at him, and then magically, she smiles! He can't believe it! Very slowly, a smile is trembling awake on his lips. She walks towards him slowly, her eyes still a little unfocussed. He is about to spread his arms when she brushes past him and walks straight into Prithvi's arms; Prithvi who is standing behind AK with the cops.
Oh my life, was there ever such a sweet-miserable moment? It felt like someone took hope and crushed it under their feet. AK's face at that point was unbearable. I couldn't watch. As she went to Prithvi and lay her face against his chest, you can see AK's face out-of-focus at the back; he should've left but feels compelled to stay. :-(
The police say that they ought to leave now. And KS is stumbling after them, when - in not quite the way that the old AK used to take KS' upper arm - Prithvi stops her. (By now, my mind was numb a bit, I just couldn't react - I felt so sorry for AK.) She is still completely bewildered and she looks at him. She is sorry, but Prithvi stops her and says that the engagement party didn't matter. Nothing matters but that they never get seperated ever again. He doesn't care for the party and the song and the dance. He wants them to be together forever. And under the gaze that AK can't break away, Prithvi slips a ring onto her finger. Then he leads her away.
(My mind went blank here, so there's probably lots of stuff that I don't remember. All I remember thinking was that there were no villains in this scene, no-one to hate, it was all so natural. But why does it hurt so badly?? I will endeavour to keep to the story.)
The next set opens with Daadi covering up KS, who is asleep in bed. Prithvi comes up to the door, and he and Daadi look significantly at each other. (Weird look.) Daadi joins him in the living room, where he says that he's going to get whoever it is that has fooled around with KS. (This is the preview of last night.) Daadi asks who would want to hurt such a sweet child, and Prithvi says, he doesn't know and he doesn't care except that he is going to find him and he is going to hurt him till he loses his life.
Cut to: An exact mirror situation where AK is standing with Josh and saying exactly (almost) the same lines. He is going to find the guy and hurt him. Josh is towering behind AK, with clenched fists, and making similar threatening lines.
Cut to: AK at the inspector's desk, sounding frustrated. Why _are_ they taking so long to apprehend the criminal??! Why, why, why?? The inspector tries to calm him down and says that such things will eventually resolve itself and the thug will be put behind bars. And then the inspector sees a new visitor and says "Ah, Mr. Prithvi." At his seat, AK's eyes go wide and his face freezes. Prithvi comes smiling upto the desk, casually looks at the person sitting at the desk, and does a double-take! Prithvi's beetle-brow face hardens into dislike. AK gives him a teeny side-ways glance out of the corner of his eye and gets enough of the black-glower to make him give the inspector a fake grin, say his goodbyes with a handshake and saunter out.
Prithvi's look was only metaphorically filled with daggers, so AK _does_ make it out of the door. But that doesn't satisfy our Fierce Fiance! Well-brought-up to the core, he begs the inspector to pardon him for a moment and goes after AK-who-still-stands.
AK's going down the stairs (Time out for an interruption -- hey, there's a butt shot here! It's a very nice butt...) when Prithvi's voice commands him to stop! Prithvi comes up to him and there are some really lovely close-up shots here. He says through gritted teeth at AK that he doesn't know what the HELL he is doing here, but that he (AK) is going to stay OUT of KS' life. Perhaps AK wants to show he gives a damn, that he cares, but he (Prithvi) doesn't give a damn for any of AK's new games. He wants him out! just like when AK wanted KS out and abandoned her. AK says not a word, but continues to look Prithvi bravely in the eye. I loved him for not shirking from looking Prithvi in the eye even being as shamefaced as a manly man could. Prithvi stalks away like a tycoon, not fuming, but with a steely strength. AK slowly turns away, acknowledging that everything Prithvi says is true. But even in his turning away, you see the tinge of purpose. Like HELL he's going to stay out of resolving this problem!
(This was a difficult scene done in a superlative manner, people. It could've been too strong on Prithvi's part, and too cowering on AK's part, but it came out quite nicely. MIKhan did a nice bit of work here, playing a guilty but manly man who can take his punches. Prithvi had the easier job, IMHO, but then <boiler plate about "what would I know?...">
Another point: I know I complained elsewhere about these close-ups showing actor's nose-hairs. Here, we get to see Prithvi's thick eyelashes and AK's lovely stubbly chiselled jawline. Things not to be missed in the art of appreciation of the finer aspects of life.)
The third set opens at Prithvi's apartment, where Mother Bose is visiting. And she is a poisonous snake!! What IS WITH KYPH writers and moms??! This is the third mom playing the devil's servant. Only this time it was smooth and completely scaly!! Urgh!! She starts by being sweet about visiting and then starts the poisonous, smoky thought process: isn't it odd how everytime there is a link up being built up between Prithvi and KS, something _always_ goes wrong? (The voice is smooth, the face is sweet, only if you pay close attention do you hear the sibilant hissss at the end!.) It's as if someone's out to ensure that this never happens. Why is that, dear? Oh well, now everything is fine, but you know, just once, it'd have been nice if things had just gone as planned. Well, never you mind, we'll have an engaement party anyway. So what if it's after-the-engagement engagement part, as long as it's after the big music show.
Poor little KS, who is looking pale and trying to recover from her ordeal and is way too made up, is gasping for air mentally: Am I really cursed? Is there something wrong with me? (Poor kid. :-( I hate AK for having started this whole mess and having put her where she is today.) What show is Mother Bose talking about? Yes, didn't you know, there's a big show where you have to perform because our company is handling it.. and KS is getting more and more desperate to escape, when ..
In walks Prithvi. He's pleased to see mom, who then repeats the relevant stuff (not the poison stuff) about a post-engagement engagement party and a big show before it, that he and Mishti are going to help her organise. Right? Prithvi smilingly nods right. And while mother and son are beaming at each other, we
Cut to: little KS' troubled face: am I really cursed? Is that why things always go wrong for me?
End of show.
Preview for the next week: Oh OH!!! AK is standing with Josh in a what looks like a dressing room, or a gym room. AK has a pencil sketch of the thug, and he is showing it to Josh and saying this is the THUG, and I'm going to beat the living daylights out of him! Will you help me? Josh says Duh?! Of course man, I'll always be with you to beat the living daylights out of a thug; I'll always be with you period. And then AK stops his "I'm-mad-and-I-want-to-get-even" attitude for a moment. He looks at Josh and smiles such a sweet smile and says thank you for everything. Josh is puzzled for a moment -- huh? Dude, we're buds, I'd do anything for you. And AK says yes, you would, you have, you are my oldest and dearest friend, you've done so very much for me and I just wanted to say thank you. And Josh (like everyone on earth watching KYPH) goes awww, and they hug. After that manly love-drenched moment, they look at each other and say let's go get this guy!
As the shot pans to the other end of the room from where they are disappearing, we see that there is someone else standing there at the locker, who has heard all the stuff about how Josh and AK are oldest, dearest friends and how Josh helped KS for AK, and it is .. ta tada!!! .. a very very disturbed Prithvi!!
(People, I'm hooked! I don't think I can wait till tomorrow to see what's going to happen. Today had AK heart-hurt out of something that was not contrived or false, a super confrontation between Silently Desperate Lover and Fierce Fiance, and a preview with a lovely Josh-AK friendship-band moment, and the truth being revealed to Prithvi! Who has the most incentive not to do any thing with it at all!
Of course, there was also the designation of the only remaining mom to the evil-corner, sigh. Maybe one day, when the show's over, KYPH writers tell us what they have against moms. Perhaps they didn't get enough cuddles when they were babies?
I have this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that the manly love-drenched moment was in preparation for Josh' eminent death - I wish I hadn't read that Josh was going to die! :-( :-( :-( I feel awful. I do wish they don't kill him, he's such a honey with AK. And AK gives him his sweetest smiles.)
