Chapter 6:
Both looked at each other.. Scanning each other from top to bottom with butterflies in their tummies!
"Finally we meet!", he said
"Come in!", she welcomed him with a smile.
Arnav walked in a stood for a moment as Khushi locked the door. "Come!", she said and walked into a room. Arnav followed her into her room. He looked over at some photos hung on the walls and few of them had a very familiar girl. He walked up to the photographed and said aloud in surprise, "LAVANYA???"
Khushi turned to see him and said, "You know Lav?"
"Uhh! Yeah.. My cousin's girlfriend! It was her birthday a few days back so I met her!", replied Arnav.
"WHAT?", she barked in shock.
"What happened?", he asked.
"You were there in that party with NK? I had just left the same party because of that khadoos boss!", she complained.
Arnav drifted into thoughts.
Flashback..
Arnav looked up as he felt an arm brush against his and saw NK's face showing confusion and Lavanya frowning.
"Any problem?", he asked.
"Lav's best friend had to leave the party coz of her khadoos boss!", said NK.
Lavanya sulked at the thought. "Hey Lavanya! Relax! We can have another hang out along with your friend! The may have been too important for her to leave you and go!", said Arnav consoling Lavanya
"Yeah Lav!", said NK
Lavanya hugged NK.. "Thanks both of you! We'll surely have another hangout!", said Lavanya
Flashback ends.
"Oh my god! We would have met that day if you wouldn't have left for work!", he exclaimed.
Khushi smiled and nodded. Khushi sat on her bed and signalled him to do the same. He removed his shoes and sat with both legs crossed on the bed.
"Thanks for coming over Arnav!", she said in a low voice.
"Hey Lazy Bum! Don't thank me! What are friends for anyways!", he said and winked.
Khushi giggled. "Coffee?", she asked.
"Sure!", he replied.
"2 minutes!", she said as she ran out of her room. Arnav smiled and looked around at the photographs that hung on the walls. There was a man in most of the photographs along with a sweet lady.
He looked at a photo where the lady was cutting the cake and Khushi had her arms around the man's shoulder and were smiling and the man was pointing at the cake in surprise.
Arnav laughed a little seeing the love hidden in that photograph. He then drifted back into thoughts where he remembered what Khushi had once mailed him.
I'm an orphan too and my bhai and bhabhi stay in Australia, so I stay here with my best friend! My childhood memories are only the ones I remember with bhai taking care of me! :)
"How could I forget!", he sighed to himself.
Khushi walked in with 2 mugs of coffee in her hand.
"That's my bhai and bhabhi and and a friend!", said Khushi. Arnav turned to look at her. She smiled and handed over the cup of coffee to him.
"Yeah! You told me once!", he replied casually.
They sipped on their coffee and an awkward silence set in when suddenly Khushi spoke up, "Thanks for being there Arnav!"
"I'll always be there for you! Anytime! Anyplace!", said Arnav as he gently kept his hand on her shoulder. Khushi smiled as a lone drop of tear made it's way down her eye.
Arnav quickly got up and set his coffee cup aside on the side table and wiped Khushi's tears and said, "Ae Khushi! I hate tears re!" in the Rajesh Khanna style. Khushi laughed and put her mug aside and hugged him. She hugged him with trust and pure affection.
"You're adorable Arnav!", she squealed as she tightened the hug. Arnav completed the hug and comforted her by caressing her hair.
"I told you na.. You're a strong girl!", he said.
Khushi smiled and broke apart.
"Khushi! Would you like to share anything with me? If yes.. You're most welcome to do so!", he announced.
Khushi walked to the balcony and took a deep breathe. Arnav followed her and stood behind waiting for her to speak up.
She finally said, "Shyam! Shyam Jha! The biggest mistake of my life! I loved him with all my heart and he just wanted to use me!", she said.
Arnav gulped waiting to know more. She continued, "We were together in college! He seemed to be a very decent guy and so we became friends through few common classmates. He and me started spending more time together as friends. We sat together in class, went for lunch breaks together. He used to drop me off home after college! It was all so nice and one day he came and proposed to me!"
Khushi turned to Arnav and continued, "I accepted coz I really liked him! I told to Lavanya that evening and she clearly told me that I had made a big mistake. I told her that she had a wrong opinion about Shyam! She said that she is happy if I am but still told me to be careful."
Khushi turned back facing the serene view of her balcony with her back towards Arnav.
She continued, "On Valentines, Shyam and I had gone for dinner after which he..." she trailed off and gulped.
Arnav kept his hand on her shoulder. She immediately turned and hugged him. He ran his finger through her hair easing her pain.
She spoke up while in the hug, "He tried to get cozy with me which I did not like! I am a person who believes in marriage and such things can be done after that! I told him the same and he got angry and broke up with me! He told me he never loved me and was with me only for sex!", she sobbed.
Arnav's fingers kept running through her silky hair as she continued, "I cried and went into depression and then Bhai came to visit me. He told me everything will be fine and I gained confidence and started leading my life normally."
Suddenly Arnav asked, "You told me about an attempt to murder?"
Khushi broke out of the hug and continued, "He had come to apologize to me and said we could be friends and me like a fool agreed. We went out for dinner that night and on the way back he stabbed me with a knife and threw me out of the car!", she cried.
"Who saved you?", asked Arnav with eager eyes.
"Akash bhai and Lavanya came to know about this and followed us the whole way!", informed Khushi.
She continued, "They saw I was thrown out of the car and immediately took me to the hospital! Bhai was so adamant to take me back to Australia but I was adamant too to continue staying here in India!"
Arnav felt a sudden urge and so he pulled Khushi into a warm hug. Khushi hugged him back.
"Thank god you're fine Khushi!", he said with a weak voice.
"But you know Arnav! I'm thankful to Shyam for one thing!", she said.
"What?", asked Arnav
"That he never raped me even though he had a chance!", she said weakly.
"Nothing will happen to you Khushi! Nothing at all!", he confirmed and ran his hand through her hair.
