Great topic for discussion Deepika.

Agreeably so, as Harini says, a stranger is a human, but to what extent do you help them?

Your help will depend on the situation at hand and how you find yourself in it.

In Gopi's case, she is always generous. She was helpless herself at that time but was willing to risk her life just to bring relief or help the stranger. She felt that she was able to do so through her own innovative way of hiding and protecting the stranger from the perpetrators.

However, most of us will think that this is extreme for any individual to do, especially when putting one's life in risk.

It did look at one point that Gopi was out there supporting a cause against domestic violence and / or the ill treatment of daughter-in-laws. Even this would have been just up the street for someone like Gopi, as she is known to care care for all and sundry.

In the real world though will any of us be willing to risk our lives for 'all and sundry' and still be able to fight for a cause?

Nice topic. Helping a stranger in need is taken on its own merits. But would many of us put ourselves in the position as Gopi has done. I think probably not and it is likely to be a situation that many of us will not find ourselves in.

Helping a stranger with directions when lost, a mother who is struggling to carry her baby and pushchair up a flight of stairs at the tube station or an old person with their shopping is an admirable act that many of us are bestowed with. But other things drive us too. When I came to the aid of an injured teen when no one else stopped it wasn't just my first aid training that spurred but that of a mother and a prayer that if my child was ever in that situation, god forbid, that someone would be there to help.

Yes, one needs to be cautious as in this day and age even a Good Samaritan's actions can be misconstrued especially when dealing with young children. I think helping another individual is ones duty but within reason.
