I just read this theory on who R.A.B might be -- except Regulus Black, as most of us believe. It's very good, and plausible too. I'm trying to find loopholes, but I haven't found any yet, and I'm a bit too lazy to look deep into it. But it is very, very plausible, and I reccommend that you read it. Here's the link:

http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-bjtexan0 1.shtml

Here's another editorial, that says that R.A.B is indeed Regulus Black, but there's a new identity about him. I won't say anything more, I'll just leave you to read it:

So which is more plausible? Any comments? Do share!http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-mizzmoon y01.shtml😊

I found another little gem out there. Here goes:

http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-erika01. shtml

Again, it discusses the possibility that it wasn't Regulus Black.

i've read the first editorial and i disagree with B. J. Texan. I have got my reasons....

1. Firstly and foremostly he says that R.A.B. can't be Regeulus Black. He thinks its Mr. Borgin of Borgin's & Burkes. He places this on the inferences that Mr Borgin dislikes the DE's and Voldy. Point to be noted here is that he's the last employer of Tom Riddle be4 he's run away and becum Voldy.
What i contend is that only disliking a person or an community (the DE's) or even hating them will not make a business person like Mr Borgin go about hunting for Hocruxes made by Voldy. esp coz he's Voldy "The Dark Lord", nobody in his hey days would like to mess with him if he wanted to live.

2. Secondly The note says

&nbs p; To the Dark Lord

I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that when you meet your match, you will be mortal once more.

&nbs p; &nbs p; R.A.B.

&nbs p; &nbs p; (609, HBP)

Point to note here is R.A.B. refer's to Voldy as "The Dark Lord". now we know that only the DEs called him that. the others used "He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named" rite.
Also it say's in the Goblet of Fire when Voldy comes back

"'And then I ask myself, but how could they have believed I would not rise again? They, who knew the steps I took, long ago, to guard myself against mortal death? They, who had seen proofs of the immensity of my power in the times when I was mightier than any wizard living?'"
- Lord Voldemort
(648, GoF) (underlining is my emphasis)
Now this R.A.B. guy must have been someone who know Voldy personally and was also powerfull both of which seem to be lacking for Mr. Borgin.

Hope you like my arguments......
please post back if you have any new theories.

regards,

Freaky Genious

Oh God, I'm confused too. For some reason, even though my intital reaction was "It's GOT TO BE Regulus Black!", I soon realised that it was a bit... too easy. Therefore I went and looked up MuggleNet theories for alternate views, and voila. I think the Borgin one is the most plausible, but they're all very well written. I can't seem to believe which!

Okey-dokey, I'm going to address each theory one by one:

RAB = Mr. Borgin:

I do not think this is possible. From the note, it appears that RAB was a person who expected to die and was not afraid of it.

If we consider Mr. Borgin, we can clearly observe that he is a coward. He was afraid of sixteen-year-old Draco Malfoy who became a new Death Eater (DE)

For example:

"He (Malfoy) moved towards Borgin and was blocked from view by the cabinet. Harry, Ron and Hermione shuffled sideways to try and keep him in sight, but all they could see was Borgin, looking very frightened." (HBP, p. 121, Bloomsbury Ed)

Albusdumbledore has already covered the other two points.

RAB = Regulus A. Black/Stubby Boardman

Regulus pretending to be Stubby Boardman appears to be a funny theory. May be plausible, but possibly a fake considering the source of the news - Mr. Lovegood, the undying patron of Crumplehorned Snorkacks. 😉

However, since most of us appear to agree that RAB was a DE and knew Lord Voldy (LV) personally, he could be the mysterious RAB.

Sirius has been proven wrong a few times already - he misjudged that Kreacher was dangerous, he laughed at his cousin Bellatrix, who eventually killed him when he became too overconfident.

So, its highly likely that he may have misjudged Regulus as well.

Plus, the evidence of a "heavy locket that no one could open" in 13 Grim. Place (based on OoTP), seems to be the overriding factor for RAB being Regulus.

A horcrux would never open easily. It only reveals itself to someone it wishes to be revealed to.

I still believe that RAB is Regulus.

RAB = Amy Benson

Now, this appears to be one of the more logical theories I've come across apart from Regulus.

However, I do not believe in this theory on 2 counts:

1) Amy showed any magical abilities in her childhood...Fear or Rage propels magic out of you if you have the ability...Neville bounced down the road when he was thrown out the window

Harry appeared on top of a chimney while being chased by Dudley and Gang

If she had any magic within herself, would she have not been protected from Tom Riddle in some way or another? Wouldn't Tom have been a little bit suspicious of her

2) If she was taken to St. Mungos, wouldn't Dumbledore have tried to get her memory? And if she was alive to tell the tale, wouldnt Voldy have killed her?

If she was never "quite right" how could she know about horcruxes and what they are when only a few wizards know this?

This RAB person appears to know what Horcruxes are - hence he/she knows Dark Magic.

Muggle Amy Benson, on the other hand, would never know their significance.
