Reservations should be handed out on religious grounds only after

1. India is declared a Hindu state
2. India's name change's from India to Hindustan

then reservations should be granted to minorities according to population

A population distribution should be created across religions

A. If Muslims consititute 20%, they should be given 20%
B. If Sikhs constitute 5%, they should be give 5%
C. If Christians consitute 2%, they should be given 2% and so on for other minority religions
D. Hindu's should be granted what remains

E. then they should be divided along SC's, ST's
F. After that whatever remains of Hindu's should be divided into Brahmins, Kshatriya's etc
G.. Each category should be divided into Men/Women,Hijra's

This should be applied to all the villages, cities, states(yes including J & K)

The entire numbers for reservations should be revamped to accomodate all of this.

If the above is not acceptable, we should get rid of the reservations and apply a common civil code😉

Congress, SP, BSP and CPM were as it is in the opposition😃

I stand corrected. My main objection was you tagging those parties as South Indian. That is why I asked for clarification😛. The parties you mentioned are the ones in AP and Tamilnadu, Telugu Desam and AIADMK and we can even add DMK. In Kerala the major parties are Communists and Congress which are central parties and in Karnataka if I am not wrong then it is Congress. An objection by 3 small parties won't make a huge difference. All the parties of United front and otherwise smaller parties along with Congress object Uniform civil code because their vote bank is mainly minority and backward community. Only BJP is in favor of it with support from RSS and VHP because that is their promise to Hindus. The fact is any of these parties come to power the code won't be implemented ever. The irony of it is our constitution of India's main principle is uniform civil code but it has not been implemented even after these many years and I believe it never will be unless we have two party policy.

I am against a nation based on a single religion principle. India is what it is today because of the contributioons of people from all walks of life and different faith. I believe in India as a secular country thus support uniform civil code. I am also not in favor of religion and caste based parties like RSS, VHP or Muslim league. These outfits cause more tension in volatile situations. I hope there comes a time when India successfully implements a two party policy.
I do support reservation for economically backward Indians irrespective of any caste, creed or religion.
Exactly. The caste based reservation system has completely failed in India over last 50 years. The original idea was to support less fortunate class of society, give a jump start to socially backward community and provide some of those a level playing field as others in independent India so then the beneficiaries would reach out to their fellow members to help and improve their lifestyle. You see, whenever you're selected over equally qualified candidates just based on your social status, your social status will change for better but you are also acquiring a moral obligation for yourself to extend support to your community and help others who are not as fortunate as you. Instead of that, over 50 years, the beneficiaries of quota systems have not only completely abandoned their communities but also they have been kept on taking advantage of these systems for their kids over and over. This whole vicious cycle has left the system for wanting more and more reservation quota and further dividing the society. Lesser privileged class deserves more because individual salvation has always depended on collective salvation (borrowing a line from Sen. Obama here) but the present caste based quota system in India has unfortunately failed to deliver. It's about time to change it something more meaningful rather than expand it.

so am I, In my opinion religion should always be unrecognizable identity to a govt, but unless we stop seeing everything on religious ground we are not going away from religion in politics, which means never, since we are such a religous country

and You missed the OR part of it at the very end😉

I second that. Also either there should be basic education facility for all ecomomically backward people irrespective of caste, creed or religion or there should be reservation only for these people.
