If Raaz 3 star Emraan Hashmi has his way, he would wear stone-studded toe-rings in addition to the four rings on his right hand to ward off evil.

His co-star Bipasha Basu is no different. The actress says she has never practiced black magic, but believes in a lemon and seven chillies on a string to ward off the evil eye.

Rani Mukherjee

Article continues below

Rani Mukherjee's upcoming film Aiyaa was initially slated for October 24 release. But now the release date has been moved to October 12 since she believes that her lucky number is 3. (For those weak in numerology, 12 (1+2) adds up to 3). She also moved house prior to the release of Dil Bole Hadippa because she reportedly believed that her palatial seaside home in Juhu was jinxed, and moved back to her old home to reverse the ill fortune.

Shah Rukh Khan

He may be sophisticated and well-spoken, but King Khan is known to be driven by a quirky superstition. All his cars carry the number 555 on the licence plate. He's not alone. Actor Sanjay Dutt insists that the digits 4545 are on the number plates of all his cars since he considers 9 lucky.

Shilpa Shetty

IPL team owner Shilpa Shetty wears two watches during important matches to ensure that lady luck is on her side — and of her team, Rajasthan Royals.

Ajay Devgn

He told tabloid! that he wasn't particularly superstitious but he dropped the letter A from his last name Devgan to appease his mother, who worried about his well-being. In 2008, a numerologist had advised his mother that altering his name would bring a positive change in her son's career. At that time, he was going through a rough patch when his ambitious project U, Me Aur Hum, with his wife Kajol, didn't find too many takers. Things have been looking good ever since.

Katrina Kaif

It's a tradition that she follows religiously. If she has a film for release, a visit to the holy shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer is a must. Despite the recent controversy which saw the priest raising objections to film stars offering prayers at a religious place, Kaif went ahead to pray for the success of her Eid release Ek Tha Tiger. The film is a certified blockbuster.

Hrithik Roshan

Some may consider his six-fingered hand a flaw, but with a face and a body such as the one on Roshan Jr, not many notice. He claims his extra finger is a lucky sign and would never opt for surgery. Reports claim that he was upset when a magazine Photoshopped the extra thumb off its cover.

Madhavan

After the success of 3 Idiots, which began with a scene of Madhavan at an airport, the actor decided to include a strange clause in his next film. He requested the makers of Tanu Weds Manu to include a scene set in Hyderabad airport. The film did brisk business at the box-office.

Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan

These ardent cricket fans will go to any lengths to see India win. Abhishek claims his ritual of sitting in an awkward, uncomfortable chair throughout the match has proven to be lucky. His father takes it a step further: Big B stays away from watching a cricket match live since he believes that every time he does a wicket will fall. He reportedly keeps tabs on the scores by asking his wife, Jaya, and daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

And some others...

Bobby Deol: He's known to wear yellow on Tuesdays.

Akshay Kumar: He prefers to travel outside India during his film's release as he believes that his presence translates into poor box-office performance. We wonder if he forgot to stick to this memo during Joker's release.
