neeranjan and pallavi's marriage was a love marriage...this explains the ghar jamai confusion. nieeranjan wasn't rich or well to do like asthanas so they had to make her a ghar jamai for pallavi's sake. so pallavi maybe isnt having any secret but neeranjan might have a mystery behind chasing pallavi and marrying her.

But Ashthanas keeping a Ghar jamai despite of this being a love marriage is what confuses me

i agree this is what i think...neeranjan had a motive behind marrying pallavi but pallavi loves him and seeing the financial condition of his...balraj and family members had to make him a ghar jamai for pallavi's sake.
