Kids wait keenly for a jhalak!
Some people obviously do not give a damn about other people's time. And recently crowned 'Jhalak' queen, Mona Singh seems to belong to that category.
Some people obviously do not give a damn about other people's time. And recently crowned 'Jhalak' queen, Mona Singh seems to belong to that category. At a function held yesterday by a popular detergent company, Mona was supposed to mingle with the kids of an NGO, 'Pratham' and promote a public campaign to encourage education amongst the lesser fortunate children of Mumbai. The only glitch? She landed an hour and a half after schedule as impatient kids and irate media personnel contemplated boycotting the event.
On her arrival though, Mona spent considerable time mingling with the excited children and posing for pictures, who insisted on calling her Jassi, the character that made her a household name a few years back. The event started with kids from 'Pratham' showcasing their dancing talent as they danced to songs like 'Vande Mataram' and 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne'. Cheering on the fervent kids, Mona was later pulled on the makeshift stage by the enthusiastic kids to shake a leg with them.
Starting with an apology, Mona said, "I'm sorry I'm late but I'm so glad to be here. These children are so talented and smart and they, too, deserve to be given a chance; they should also be able to learn and have a bright future for themselves. Look at them dance, they are so good and eager to learn more, they should be encouraged. And if in my own small way I can make a difference, then why not? By rescuing these innocent kids from the streets, 'Pratham' is doing such a good job and now it's our turn as citizens to
make a difference."
According to the contest, the detergent company has tied up with 'Pratham' to sponsor the education of the underprivileged children belonging to 'Pratham'. These kids come from slums of Govandi and were previously rag pickers and child labourers before they were rescued and admitted in BMC schools. According to the contest, you have to wash the swatch of cloth that comes along with the detergent packet and then SMS the score to the number provided. The more Mumbaikars send these messages; more funds are generated in this education drive.
