She woke up in cold sweat only to realize that it had been a bad dream. It had seemed very real. What was the meaning of it? She saw that Veer was awake too. He switched on the bed side lamp and noticed the traces of fear still left on her face. "Kya hua Princess? Bura sapna dekha tumne?" he caressed her brow.
She hid herself in his chest in answer. He soothed her by rocking themselves back and forth. The dream still kept appearing in front of her eyes like some horror movie replayed again and again.
"maine sapne me dekha ki Yuddha ne'"
"Kya kiya Yuddha ne?"
She couldn't answer back as her throat constricted with grief. He repeatedly rubbed her back and she relaxed a little bit. The feel of his warm body was making her comfortable and she let herself go.
After a while he lowered her to the bed thinking she had slept but she was only pretending to be asleep. Her mind was on a different plane altogether.
From her childhood she had seen the men of the family treating women like inferior beings and in mind of minds expected her hubby to be same. But the man she had been married to was so different from all. Any other man in his place could have never taken the news of his wife carrying someone else's baby so lightly. Hell even her father had refused to believe her but Veer, he had stood with her like a rock of Gibraltar; never doubting her'showering so much love. 'He has done so much for you in such a short period'what have you done in return?' A voice spoke up in her mind.
'But love is not give and take, when the time comes I will do my bit' she answered it.
'Remember Manyata'when he was plain Veer, with no subtitles attached to his name, what did he ask you for? So selfish of you to forget'' the voice said again.
Oh yes'he wanted to learn English'And now it's become all the more necessary...how could she forget? A new thought came in her mind which made her smile instantly. She sat up and kissed the forehead of the sleeping figure next to her.
****************************
Next day morning when she came down, every one behaved as if she was a criminal and only Veer's hand in hers kept her from bursting into tears. As usual her mom watched helplessly and others sulked.
No one spoke anything and as Udayveer was about to get up Manyata said in a whisper "Mujhe tumhe kuch batana hai'adhe ghante baad garden me milna mujhe"
What now? He thought.
He found her in the garden half an hour later, waiting for him with impatience pacing back and forth.
'Poor Manyata, the tension of last few days has been too heavy on her'may be her mind has snapped' thought Uday.
"Princess'yeh sab kya ho raha hai? Chalo ghar ke andar'dhoop me rahogi toh aur tabiyat bigdegi, chalo" he took her hand but she shook him off.
"Tu mere saath chalega ki nahi'apun ko kuch nahi hua hai" she said in all seriousness. He couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with her. Was she the same woman who was crying over a dream last night? As he stood there contemplating forcibly carrying her home, she did the unthinkable.
Veer didn't get a single second to think as Manyata closed his mouth with hers in a force unseen before. Veer thought he had reached heaven when his tasting organ explored the insides of her oral cavity. Smell of his aftershave was making her heady and she could easily forget why she had called him here. God forbid if DS or Giriraj saw them in this position, they might be disowned.
Although it was difficult, she broke the kiss first and steadied her breathing. Veer spoke first "Yeh sab kya hai Manyata?" he looked really confused.
"Veer, yeh meri choti si koshish hai'tumhare chehere par hasi lane ki'main kisi jagah bulaoongi toh tum mere saath chaloge?" she asked.
"zaroor chaloonga par kahan?" he was really intrigued now.
She started walking towards the back gate and he followed her. There was a car there and Manyata took the drivers seat. She signaled him to take the front seat besides the driver's one. Was she really out of her mind after all?
Uday's face was unreadable as he got in and closed the door.
"ab toh batado hum kahan jaa rahe hain?" He asked her.
"Hum airport jaa rahe hain" Manyata said.
"Airport!" he repeated.
Precap
As he pelted a snow ball towards her she ducked for cover. In the process of running, she didn't see where she was going and lost her footing. The snow was really slippery and she started going down with nothing to hold on to.
