This show is made for chawl people, err I mean the show is targeted towards the middle class viewers in India.
The maker of the show expect this show dealing with the life and times of the chawl people will easily relate to the chawl people.
Hence Ds, Ks, & Dutts are shown living in chawl and loving poverty.

People like Arjun who are rich also fall in love and start loving the chawl and people living there.

Jokes apart, Onir is a simple doc with a humble income. They showed that when they were living in Kolkotta, they were hardly able to make ends meet.
