Ek Thi Daayan To Forgo Single Screens; Will Release Only In Multiplexes
17 April 2013 , By Koimoi.com Team

Ek Thi Daayan Movie Poster

Ekta Kapoor had focused on commoners for far too long during her television soap days. But with her films climbing on to the crme de le crme of cinematic pyramid, Miss Kapoor has made an appallingly elitist move. Her upcoming film Ek Thi Daayan, which is being co-produced by notable director Vishal Bharadwaj will only release in multiplexes. Boycotting single screens which count for the maximum revenue of films, is a large space to incur revenue for the film. With Ekta's attention strikingly diverting towards strong content of her films, money has begun to matter a lot less for the lady it seems.

However, divulging into details, the real reason seems that Ekta is miffed with most single screen owners for favoring Rohit Shetty directed Shah Rukh Khan starrer UTV's Chennai Express over her film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Again. Both films which are scheduled to release on Eid this year, are already competing for market arena. Chennai Express, being a King Khan film, has appeared to most single screen owners as the obvious pick. Ekta Kapoor has smartly designed this move to pressurize single screen owners to rethink over their decision. Following Ek Thi Daayan, the next release of Balaji is the John Abraham starrer, much anticipated film Shootout at Wadala which will release early next month.

Backlashing at Ekta's move, single screen owner Manoj Desai, of G7, Bandra, and Maratha Mandir, Mumbai Central angrily retorted saying "Ekta's decision will harm her own film. Theaters won't shut down if she doesn't give us a movie. We will show some English release dubbed in Hindi instead. We don't like anyone trying to monopolize things."

Desai however concluded on a hopeful note, emphasizing that the issue will soon be resolved.

@DB...she is a smart women...she knows already that this film is not for masses and so the main target is the multiplex audience

Not necessarily all EH films do well in Single screen...when he does different kind of movies like Shanghai they don't fare well amongst the masses
