Emraan Hashmi has been enjoying quite a great run at the box office. Although his SHANGHAI and RUSH failed last year, his other releases JANNAT 2 (Hit) and RAAZ 3 (Blockbuster) definitely made up for it. He's been getting signed for films by some of the biggest names (such as Karan Johar) and there were also talks of him being in a Yash Raj Film.
This friday will see the release of his next film, EK THI DAAYAN.
The film has been able to generate a bit of buzz due to the trailers, but not too much buzz. The music of the film has not caught on.
Opening wise, the film should open decently due to factors like Emraan's presence, Balaji producing the film, and the Emraan/horror combo which has worked many times in the past. The Emraan/horror combo will make the film's opening be better at single screens. But, overall, the opening won't be upto the mark of usual Emraan starrers.
Content-wise, it could go either way. The film may be liked, as Emraan Hashmi's film in this type of genre have been appreciated before. Also, Balaji rarely has a criticized film. On the other hand though, the director is new, and no one can say for sure anything about his directorial capabilities until we see the film.
The cost of the film (including P and A) works out to be approx. 29 crores. Music, satellite, and other sources have got the film recovery of 20 crores. Indian/Overseas theatrical will further help.
My Box Office Predictions for EK THI DAAYAN:
Opening Day: 6 crores net
Opening weekend: 20 crores net
Lifetime Collections: 50 crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Above Average
