Six different couples Twelve different lives Six different worlds One common problem – LOVE In short, essence of a film that goes by the name of – "Salaam-E-Ishq". After a terrific beginning with 'Kal Ho Na Ho' that was accused of catering mainly to urban and NRI audience, director Nikhil Advani picks up a universal subject – 'LOVE' - and creates a film that truly seems to have universal cinematic appeal. At least this is what the promos suggest! One look at it and one is tempted to believe that the film would be as much accepted in London as in Ludhiana! The promo is set in four stages: Introduction, tender moments, celebration moments and then finally some dramatic moments. Set as a teaser, it has a collage of shots coming in split second succession with the solitary dialogue coming in the end. But more about that later!
As a prelude to the things that would follow, the caption 'Six Different Couples' is followed by an array of shots featuring each of the leading protagonists of the film that appear one after another. Salman Khan - Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor - Juhi Chawla, John Abraham - Vidya Balan, Govinda - Shannon Esrechowitz, Akshaye Khanna - Ayesha Takia, Sohail Khan - Isha Koppikar; each of the couples are shown to be sharing some happy moments together in rich colorful frames. It's time to keep the camera glued on each of the protagonists [again in a quick byte motion] once the announcement arrives around 'Twelve Different Lives'. You are hooked already in spite of the fact that it has been merely 5 seconds since the promo began! The curiosity reaches its peak once the 'Six Different Worlds' of these couples is shown, since this is the time when Nikhil Advani brings to fore the vast canvas of the film. Exotic locations from India and abroad are captured beautifully to set the base for each of the couples and establish the BIG PICTURE as visualized by Nikhil. Tender moments Introductions done and now it's the time to get up, close and personal with the love stories of each of the couples. So first we witness Salman (in his brand new and impressive hairdo) serenading Priyanka followed by Govinda standing next to his taxi and sharing some sweet nothing moments with the love of his life - Shannon. Next comes a shot which seems to be set in a celebration mood as Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla come across as a mature couple in love amidst all the young ones dancing around. Akshaye Khanna [with a lack of hair] and Ayesha Takia [with an excess of the same] cootchie-coo in picturesque location while lust prevails the mind of a very topless Sohail Khan [in an interesting looking beard] as he gets ready to get close to his newly wed wife Isha. The best is reserved for the end as John Abraham and Vidya Balan look great as a couple while sharing a cozy moment under a 'dupatta'. Relationships being established, the screen is filled with six different shots of each of the couples to paint the mood of this romantic film - Salaam-E-Ishq! Celebration moments The music picks up pace with the promo taking a spirited route from this moment on. That's the reason why there is an immediate excitement and a smile on the face with each of the couples sharing happy times with each other at home, outdoors, parties, ball rooms, shopping malls, exquisite locations and lots more! There are nanosecond clips from songs-n-dances set in both hindustani and videsi style giving an indication that Nikhil has something ready for everyone! And all those who thought that Vidya Balan would always be a plain jane, as evident in 'Parineeta' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', watch out for a teasing scene where she displays her bare leg across the door while inviting hubby John Abraham in who is in mood for a full Monty! Anjana Sukhani, who plays a modern single girl in London, too does her bit in a scintillating red outfit while inviting attention of Anil Kapoor. Desert shots of India featuring a folk dance in the middle followed by Sohail looking all ready for that magical moment while being attired in his wedding outfit atop his bed only help in heating the moments further. Interspersed with dozen odd shots of songs-n-dances from the film, these are some of the best moments of the promo so far. But wait, there is more to come! Dramatic moments Drama builds soon after you had thought that 'Salaam-E-Ishq' was all about love, happiness and some tender-cum-celebration moods. This is taken full stride with John running on a street in the dead of the night looking all tense and harried, Anil Kapoor standing tall against a building that appears like a historical castle, Akshaye Khanna driving his roofless car pretty fast through a busy road, Ayesha Takia looking all teary eyed, Salman getting down on his knees in front of Priyanka, Anil and Juhi having a tiff at home, Shannon crying inconsolably as Govinda drives his cab, Akshaye in a pensive mood, John appearing highly tense and disturbed with questions all over his face, Priyanka looking shattered with active shutterbugs around her and Vidya staring at John with swollen eyes, And now comes the best part of it all.... "Salaam-E-Ishq, O Meri Jaan Zara Kubool Kar Lo; Tum Humse Pyaar Karne Ki Zara Si Bhool Kar Lo" Yes, before the promo comes to an end, these are the golden words mouthed in an inimitable style by a dashing looking Salman Khan as he looks straight into the camera! A sixer indeed to end the match! For a film that has a brilliant promo promising a lot more than what it actually reveals, 'Salaam-E-Ishq' is a Sunil Manchanda & Mukesh Talreja film and releases all over this January. |
