Chapter Twelve – The Rose
I stretched in bed as the sunlight awoke me. I slowly opened my eyes and grabbed for the watch on the bedside table; it read 9:13am. I yawned and placed the watch back down as I slowly sat up. I quickly freshened up after remembering that it was the day of the party. I needed to help Adi. I wore the next simplest anarkali I could find. It was dark blue with silver beads and lining at the top, quite a beautiful piece of clothing in my opinion. After dressing myself and braiding my hair, I rushed down the stairs. This time the scene before my eyes was a lot more hectic than the day before. It was chaotic. Unfamiliar faces were running back and forth while finishing up with decorations. I looked around the room to find Adi but it was nearly impossible with all the moving people. My eyes managed to land on the only individual who wore a suit and I automatically assumed it was Adi. I ran towards him and tapped on his shoulder. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It was RK. I was just about to turn to leave because I was in no mood of seeing him so early in the morning, but he spoke.
"Good afternoon Madhubala."
"Huh? It's only 9:45am."
"Did you forget that you're the maid of this house? Who's supposed to make us breakfast? You're lucky these people were here, or else…"
"Or else what? You would've woken me and told me to make you breakfast? You would've threatened me again? Please, just stop with the empty threats."
"Hah! Empty? You honestly have no idea what I could do, do you? I don't have feelings Madhubala and I sure as hell don't have a heart, so don't ever assume that I'll feel pity for you if I plan to go through with one of my threats."
I didn't know what to say. I stared at him with probably the straightest face ever. He confused me. First he goes and helps treat my burn, and then he goes on to say that he has no feelings? I definitely did not believe him but was in no mood to argue with him, so I kept my mouth shut.
"That reminds me. You need to do something."
"What?"
"You need to go eat. There's a covered tray in the kitchen for you. Don't take me wrong; I actually just don't want another doctor entering my home for you. And next time you wake up past 9am, you'll regret it."
Another empty threat. That's all he ever did. He threatened me, but never harmed me in any way. Something was certainly stopping him from going through with his threats. I decided to put my thoughts away and turned away from him. I felt his eyes on me as I walked towards the kitchen…I felt his eerie look in my direction, but I didn't bother turning back. I walked straight towards the kitchen and grabbed the only covered tray I could find.
"Boo!"
I was glad I hadn't fully picked up the tray, or I would've dropped it without question. I turned around to see Adi standing there with his usual playful smile on his face.
"So you're coming to the party?"
"Wait, I have a choice?"
"What? Oh, no, you don't…I just thought I'd make it seem like you do."
"Well, that's unfortunate."
"I thought you were coming to pay back the favour he did for you!"
"He's made it clear that it was no favour and he doesn't want to be reminded of it."
"Well, that's bro for you. He's always been like that. Anyways, I'm busy, just come to me once you're done eating."
"Sure."
He quickly rushed out of the kitchen as I picked up the tray. I walked towards the center island in the kitchen and took a seat. I uncovered the food and took in the delicious smell of the waffles. I couldn't wait to eat them. I took my time to eat the two waffles in front of me. I wanted to take in their delightful taste with every bite. Once I was done, I washed the dishes, and then headed back out to the hectic foyer. I sighed as I realized another day was beginning in the Kundra mansion…no day seemed to be calm in their home. Adi rushed over to me before I could even reach the center of the room.
"Madhy! I need you to help Supriya with the flowers."
"Supriya? She's the one who helped with the clothes right?"
"Yeah, she's by the door, in the purple jacket and jeans."
I nodded my head and began walking towards her. She had beautiful long black hair and a nice physique as well. As I reached her, she turned to face me with the most gentle, innocent smile. She seemed just as kind as Adi. She put out her hand.
"Hi! I'm Supriya, you must be Madhubala! Adi's told me about you."
I shook her hand and wondered what story Adi had told her about me.
"Yup, that's me. And he has?"
"Yeah, he told me about how you're an orphan but they gave you a job in their home. They're so kind aren't they?"
I couldn't help but mumble, only one of them.
"Sorry?"
"Oh, nothing. Let's hurry up and finish with the flowers set up."
"I'll do the left side Madhu and you can do the right, this way it'll be quicker!"
"Good idea."
I picked up a bunch of flowers and headed towards the right side of the entrance and began placing them nicely in the tall vases provided. The flowers were red roses to be exact, and they were beautiful. I held the thorn-less roses in my hands and was surprised by the fact that RK of all people would have thorn-less roses at his party. As I held the roses in my hands, I saw a third hand come in and take a rose away.
"Hey!"
I turned to see RK standing there with the rose in his hand.
"My mother's favourite."
He gave me a dirty look as I remembered back to the mistake I had made the previous night. Before I could say a word, he walked away with the rose. I watched him as he walked away and up the stairs. He sure was a mystery. As I got lost in my thoughts and my eyes got stuck on the stairs, I forgot that I was supposed to be placing the roses.
"Madhu?"
I blinked and looked to my right to see Supriya standing there.
"I'm done my side, I can help you on yours."
"Oh, okay, thank you."
We quickly placed the roses where they belonged. I had completely forgotten to thank her for the clothes and so I decided to do so.
"By the way, thank you so much for helping Adi pick out clothes for me."
"Ahah! My pleasure! I love shopping!"
"Well I'm glad you do! Will you be coming to the party tonight?"
"I actually have plans already, so I won't be able to make it."
"Oh, okay. Well it was nice meeting you Supriya."
"It was nice meeting you too! I'm sure it won't be the last time. And also you can call me Priya, that's just what most people call me."
"Alright. Well, see you later."
"For sure!"
She smiled a perfect smile down at me and then walked away to help with other work. I turned and managed to find Adi, so I walked up to him.
"I'm done. Is there anything else I can help with?"
"Hmm, nope. It seems good. Now all I need you to do is rest up before the party!"
