Chapter Nine – The Burn

I instantaneously opened up the bag and pulled out the only dress I could see. The tag on the dress was surprisingly the first thing that caught my eye. Kundra. That's all it read…so I figured aside from a model agency, they also owned a fashion agency. That also explained their good sense of style. I held up the dress and was in awe of how gorgeous it was. It was red, a rose red colour. It had beads, which lined the waistband below the bust, and a long train with a slit up to the thigh, which made the dress even more elegant. I turned it around to see the back and was shocked. Adi expected me to wear a completely backless dress with a low cut…and I knew that I wouldn't be comfortable in it. The V-neck on the front ran down low and was another aspect of the dress that I wasn't comfortable with. As I stared at the dress, I remembered RK's words. If you don't bring me chai within the next fifteen minutes…there will be consequences. Adi had even suggested that I listen to RK this time. So I quickly placed the dress back into the bag and ran towards the kitchen. Since I was new to the kitchen, I took a few minutes to find all the things I needed. By that point, I only had about five minutes left. So I quickly made chai as fast as I could.

Whilst making the chai, I had felt a bit dizzy, I decided to disregard it and finished it as fast as I could. Once I was done, I placed it in a tray and ran…fast, but not too fast to make sure I didn't spill it. I didn't know what time it was, but I figured I had made it fast enough, so I knocked on his door. The door opened and he stood leaning against one side with his arms crossed. He first looked at my face and then down towards the tray in my hands.

"You're two minutes late."

"Well, maybe if I had a watch, I wouldn't have been."

His furious expression crossed his face again and then he suddenly turned around. I decided to follow him into his room with the tray. There was a second where it felt like the room was spinning, but I stabled myself. I stood there as he ignored my presence and went to sit in front of his laptop. I waited for him to turn and take the chai from me, but he didn't. I closed my eyes as I began to feel giddy. I held the tray in one hand and placed my other hand to my head, as I felt lightheaded. I noticed his head turn in my direction as I felt the room beginning to spin. I knew I was swaying when he spoke.

"What's happening to you?"

He spoke firmly until I felt myself beginning to fall. Just before I hit the ground, I heard his voice.

"MADHU?!"

And with that, my eyes closed and darkness took me over. The next thing I remember was the feeling of soft bed sheets beneath me. I heard voices, but they were hazy. I slowly began to open my eyes; it took me a minute to adjust to the lights above me. I saw the blurry figures of three men standing around me. One sat near me, while the two others stood behind him. Eventually my vision managed to clear.

"She's waking up."

I looked to my left and saw an older man…a doctor. Then my eyes slowly moved up to see the two brothers standing side by side directly behind the doctor. Adi had an expression full of worry on his face whereas RK's face just showed frustration…as though he was wasting his precious time by standing there. It took me a moment to realize that I was lying in bed and a doctor was beside me. I tried to think back to what happened when suddenly I felt a sharp, burning…stinging pain on my stomach. I shrieked and sat up instantly while cringing. I placed my arm over my stomach and closed my eyes shut as tears rolled out of them. I felt a comforting hand on my back.

"It's okay beti, it's just a minor burn from the chai. Mr. Kundra applied cream and bandaged it up before I even came here. You should be very thankful to him."

I heard the doctor speaking but had to take a moment to suppress the physical pain I was in. I let out a few breaths slowly. Then I slowly reopened my eyes and turned to look at Adi whose worried expression had intensified.

"Thanks Adi."

Adi shook his head.

"Wasn't me Madhy, RK did it…I was at work when he called me. I came right away."

My ears were shocked to hear what they had. RK had helped me? I glanced towards RK and his eyes instantly left my face. He stormed out of my room, which confirmed what Adi had just said. RK had helped me. I couldn't believe he did…after all, he did come across as heartless.

As I remained in my stunned state at the news I had just received, I heard the doctor speaking to Adi.

"I've given her an injection…but I just need you to make sure she eats and drinks plenty."

"I'll make sure she gets what she needs. Thank you doctor."

"Anytime Mr. Kundra."

I saw the doctor walk by, as I remained silent on the bed. I felt the bed dip down to my left and my head instantly shot in that direction to see Adi. He looked kind of angry this time.

"When was the last time you ate?"

"Huh? Oh, I had a couple bites the other day."

"When was the last time you drank something?"

I tried to think back to the last time…but I couldn't. All that came to mind was the few water droplets that had entered my mouth as I showered.

"Madhy, when was the last time?"

"I don't remember…"

"Are you kidding me?!"

He got off the bed and a furious look crossed his face. He ran his hand through his hair and looked around the room in a frustrated motion.

"What happened…?"

"Hah…are you seriously going to ask me that while lying in bed in the condition you're in now? LOOK at yourself."

I turned my head completely to the left towards the mirror in which Adi had seen me smile that day. As my eyes landed on the mirror, I realized what he was talking about. I looked as pale as a ghost and it managed to frighten me slightly. I looked back towards Adi who seemed worried and angered at the same time.

"Adi?"

"What?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"No. First you have to eat and th…"

He went silent as his eyes landed on the door. I turned to look towards the door and my jaw hit the ground. There stood RK with a tray full of food and a cup of water. He looked straight at me as he walked towards me. He went to the right of my bed and placed the tray down. I looked at it and then up at him.

"Eat it. And listen to me carefully. Next time you refuse to eat, there will be no doctor to help you. Understand?"

I unconsciously nodded my head slowly as I kept my eyes on his. He gave me one last irritated look and then walked out of my room. My eyes followed him and it surprised me that he cared. Or did he? I couldn't tell. He was like a puzzle that was impossible to solve.

"What'd you want to ask me?"

I was brought out of my thoughts by Adi's voice. I hadn't even realized he had come to sit beside me on the bed. He picked up the tray and took a spoonful of food.

"I jus…"

Before I could finish speaking, he stuffed the spoon into my mouth. I quickly chewed and swallowed, then tried again.

"I was won…"

He put another spoon full of food into my mouth. I looked up at him and noticed a slight smirk on his face. It was obvious he was enjoying it. So I grabbed the spoon out of his hand and placed the tray in my lap.

"I can eat."

I didn't look in his direction, so I didn't know what expression he wore. That was until he chuckled and nudged me gently on the shoulder.

"I was just playing. What'd you want to ask me Madhy?"

"Nothing."

"Oh come on, ask away."

"Fine, if you insist…I was just wondering why…"

I looked at him and saw curiosity all over his face. I wondered if I should continue with my question. I decided it'd be best to get as many answers to as many questions as possible. As I thought to myself, he raised an eyebrow in a gesturing motion for me to continue speaking.

"I was wondering why you're…so kind to me. I mean…why do you even care what happens to me? You helped kidnap me…so…"

He looked at me seriously and his gentle smile vanished. I stared into his chocolate brown eyes and wondered what was on his mind, when suddenly he began laughing. I liked his laugh. It was a cute, comforting laugh…like an innocent child's laugh, but of that of a grown man's. Though his laugh made me want to smile, my confusion managed to overpower the good feeling within me. I looked at him confused and gave him a minute to settle down.

"Do you expect me to be like RK?! Oh god…I can't even imagine myself like that! I've always been his polar opposite. We're brothers, we get along every now and then…but we're nothing alike."

"Then what's so funny? Why were you laughing?"

"The fact that you think I'm giving you special treatment for a reason. There's no REASON, I'm just a kind person. I hate seeing people distressed…actually, seeing you in your kidnapped state was quite amusing I have to admit."

I let my typical grumpy expression cross my face and I looked the other way.

"Oh come on! Hm, okay, how about…I'm sorry?"

I refused to accept his apology. I kept my face in the opposite direction of his. Then I felt his soft fingers below my chin. My expression of anger vanished and a different one took place…an expression that exposed the speeding up of my pulse. He slowly turned my face back towards him. I looked into his eyes and noticed a passionate expression on his face. He smiled a passionate smile down at me. His eyes scanned my eyes and then slowly moved down to my lips. As he eyed my lips just like RK had the day before, I felt my heart beginning to flutter more and more.

"ADITYA KUNDRA!"

RK's loud voice from his room interrupted whatever was taking place between Adi and I. We both knocked out of the trance we had been. He instantly got off the bed and I noticed he was surprised at what he had been doing. I watched him for a minute, but then without a word, he simply walked out of my room as though nothing had happened.

Why pritt why???? Why why why u doing this to me ?????

Ur making me fall for Adi 😔 he's so kind and gentle !!! Aarghhh don't do this !!!!!!! 😡

just what in the world is going on? on a scale of one to confused, I am off the charts. Another few chapters of this sandwich romance and I will go insane. I change camps everyday. I don't who to pick.😆
