Contrary to the buzz that this serial was to fold up, the channel has granted an extension of four months. It will also be changed from its present one-hour to a half-hour format.
Producer Sunjoy Waddhwa confirms the development. "We have got an extension till April," he says.
"From January 31, Des Mein will be in half hour episodes. There will be more action. It will focus on Mahi's revenge on Veer (Ankur Nayar) and Heer's (Neha Mehta) love saga."
Des Mein which has been on air for three years had reached a 'high point' in April with a generation leap.
The soap began its track with an Indian family settled in the UK. The serial, originally produced by Aroona Irani, had Pritam Singh and his family from Punjab who have made London their home.
The protagonist was Pammi (Ghosh), Singh's granddaughter, who has to battle with several marital and husband identity issues. After the leap, the focus was on Heer, Pammi's daughter.
Ghosh resurfaced in the serial in August as Mahi, a dancer, and her relation to Heer, Pammi's daughter, was to be the twist in the tale.
"The present track has Mahi realise her true identity. She knows who her parents are and sets to put things in the right perspective," adds Waddhwa.
