Chapter Six – The Clothes
I walked into the hallway, still stunned about what happened, when I bumped into someone. I looked up to see Adi with a bowl of food.
"Sorry."
I spoke quietly as I eyed his food. I hadn't ate all day and seeing that food reminded me of my hunger. He took another spoonful and then held the bowl out in front of him.
"Have it! I'm full."
"No, I'm fine. Do you guys always stay up so late?"
"I actually have office work, I don't know why bro's up though. Is something wro…wait, why are you dressed in a towel?"
"I have no night clothes…"
"OH! I'm so stupid! I completely forgot! Here, hold this and I'll go get you some clothes."
He held the bowl out in front of him again and I took it. He turned to run back down the stairs. I eyed the food and decided I could eat a little, so I did. I took a few bites and then noticed Aditya coming back up the stairs. I put the spoon back down in the bowl as he came to stand in front of me.
"Who ordered night clothes?"
I smiled as he looked around at everything but me.
"I did."
"A smile! Good, keep that on your face."
I grabbed the pair of clothes and handed him his bowl of food again. I walked past him but then thought of saying something. I turned my head around to see him staring at me.
"Thank you Adity…"
"Nope Madhy! It's Adi! And don't thank me. That's too senti, how about…hmm, you owe me now."
I let out a low laugh and then smiled.
"Deal, Adi."
"Good!"
I turned back around and walked back towards my room to end the horrid day.
I obviously didn't get any sleep all night. Though I hadn't really left anything behind for me to be upset about, I was still frightened by the idea of being kidnapped. I had heard about many people being kidnapped before and how horrible it had been for those who survived. And here I laid on one of the most comfortable beds I had ever laid on. I wondered if they had something planned for me and were only giving me a happy kidnapping until they got their plan set to go. Nothing made sense. Why would I get kidnapped and then be treated as a princess by one brother but like trash by the other? I spent the entire night trying to come up with an answer but turned out unsuccessful in the end. As I laid in bed, I noticed the curtains brighten when the sun shined into them. I quickly got out of bed and walked towards the curtains to open them, and when I did…I saw the most beautiful view in front of me. It almost surprised me that I thought it was beautiful because the window from which I looked out from was a window to the house which held me captive. Captive. I didn't know if I really was being held captive or not. As soon as I had realized that I had left nothing behind, I didn't mind being where I was. After all, it was the first time I was actually making a friend, whom I felt I could trust. At the orphanage, the only friends I had were the little ones I took care of. All the other caretakers never acknowledged me as one of their own…I always wondered why none of them liked me. I figured it was because the owner of the orphanage treated me the best for not taking money from her for doing work. I had volunteered to help because I felt I owed my life to that orphanage. Had it not been for the orphanage…I probably would've been dead.
As I got lost in thought while looking out the window, there was a knock at my door.
"Come in."
"Madhy, bro's calling you down."
"Now? I have to change."
"He said now."
I turned to look at Adi who looked quite classy in a suit. I raised an eyebrow to show him I was impressed. He let out the same adorable laugh and I could've sworn he almost blushed as well.
"Work outfit."
"Ah, I see, not bad!"
"Thanks! Now come down."
"Tell your bro I'll be down in twenty."
He smiled as he realized I was beginning to take his advice and not show the fear I had the previous day. He nodded his head and closed the door behind himself as I went to grab a pair of clothes out from the bag he had provided me with the previous night.
Just as I began rummaging through the bag, my door swung open. Before I could get a look at whom it was, I felt a throbbing pain on my arm. I looked at the hand that gripped at my arm with full force and then towards his furious face. He began dragging me out of the room as I struggled to get free.
"Let me go!"
He didn't respond. He dragged me down the stairs and towards Adi and the maid, Neha, who stood at the bottom. Just as we reached the bottom of the stairs, he froze. I watched as his nostrils flared and he inhaled some scent. Then suddenly his head shot in my direction. He let go of my arm, took a step back, and looked me up and down. I took a better look at myself as well to realize I was still wearing the long, blue, lady-like nightwear.
"That's ma's…WHY ARE YOU WEARING MA'S CLOTHES?!"
I hadn't heard him shout that loud before. He grabbed my arms and I grimaced in pain.
"Get. Out. Of. Those. Clothes. NOW."
"I have no other clothes!"
"OUT. NOW. Before I rip the clothes off you."
I looked at him in shock as his hands began to move towards my back. I gasped as I felt him pulling at the tie, which held the back together.
Before he could open up the tie, I pushed him away. He stepped forwards to grab me by the shoulders once again.
"Who gave you these clothes?!"
He shook me viscously demanding an answer and my eyes shot over his shoulder at Adi who stood there silently. It angered me that he wasn't saying anything, so I did.
"A…ADITYA. He…he gave me these cl…"
Before I could finish, he released me unexpectedly, causing me to fall back onto the ground as he turned to look at Adi. I looked up to see RK approaching him.
"You did this Aditya?"
"Bro…there were no oth…"
My hands covered my mouth in shock as I heard the echo of the slap RK had just crossed Aditya's face with. I couldn't help but feel guilty for it. Aditya's eyes shot in my direction for a moment and I knew he was angry, but then he looked at his brother. RK simply turned to face Neha who stood watching the scene unfold.
"Neha, give her your clothes."
"But sir, I only have one pair at work."
I stood as RK began talking to Neha. I quickly glanced towards Adi to mouth the words I'm sorry, but he looked the other way. I sighed and then listened in on what RK was saying to Neha.
"You're fired. Don't come to work from tomorrow."
I wondered what I had missed within seconds that could've led to Neha being fired. Her eyes widened at his words and an uneasy feeling took place in my gut. Neha was the only other female in the home besides me, and if she left…that'd just leave me.
"But sir…"
"Get out. Right this instant."
"Yes sir…"
I watched as she left to go change out of her maid's clothes and then RK turned to face me once again.
