Dear Diary,
What a wonderful opening we had to this week! That dream sequence of Asad's which many of us caught sitting through 2 hours of utter B*******t- was certainly more than worth it, even with the poor editing. They missed out a really magical bit of KSG's choreography in the opening of the Lamhe song. Even then, the whole segment was a treat to watch.👏
Hmmm…Someone seems to have grown by leaps and bounds this week- who else? Our dear Akdu Ahmed Khan!😳😆
Asad:
What a 180 degree turn!
Just last week he was running and hiding in his room when confronted by a reluctant Ms. Farooqui with an innocent Q: 'Do you happen to remember more about that evening than what I can remember?'
And his behavior pushed Zoya to go into hiding too at first, but that did not last long. There was nothing to be ashamed about! So they both danced under the influence of bhang- why couldn't Mr. Khan just accept that he danced with her? This bit irked the hell out of Zoya and she took it up as a challenge to prove that he did remember.
And boy, did he remember! He did! With shy smiles and blushing cheeks and dreamy looks….Had some of us lost in la la land for quite some time! And he made sure we stayed there with this week's about- turn.😳
So, what about- turn did he take?
He started reaching out to Zoya. He has done this before too. But every time it was propelled by a major event that roused his conscience. After Akram incident, it was guilt that taught him to say sorry. After Mangalpur, it was the experience of losing her that made him realize what she meant for him. Even as he tried to suppress those feelings, he started waiting up for her- replaced the precious things she had lost. After the infamous slap incident, again, it was guilt that caused him to extend that hand of reconciliation and she had graciously accepted.
But their relationship went through another upheaval when he presumed she had crossed her lines once again, when it came to his quest for justice. "Aap ko apne hadein nazar hi nahi aati"
And cementing that mistrust were a series of incidents that only proved her incompetence again and again.
But all that changed. The wonderful thing is, Zoya did not have to do anything to change it. She did not have to explain or prove herself. All it took was a few tears on her face and he had wanted to hold her and comfort her. And NOW, it is not just a want any more! Asad Ahmed Khan is acting upon the dictates of his heart…he wants to offer her comfort in her distress. What a long way he has travelled!
He is not afraid of the consequences any more? He is not even sure about her feelings! She has never fully reciprocated it- the only way she has exhibited her affection for him was in the shameless demonstration of the slight possessiveness he evoked in her---as a friend? As a lover? Does Zoya know? Will Asad want to push her to know? Will he make her explore her feelings and put a name to their relationship?
"Mitwa, ishq pe zor nahi!" Or is it a selfless yearning on his part to share her burden, taking back only what she has to offer him?
WHAT HAS SHE GOT TO OFFER HIM?
"People have forgotten this truth," the fox said. "But you mustn't forget it. You become responsible forever for what you've tamed. You're responsible for your rose."
Antoine de Saint-Exupry, The Little Prince
"You're beautiful, but you're empty...One couldn't die for you. Of course, an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than all of you together, since she's the one I've watered. Since she's the one I put under glass, since she's the one I sheltered behind the screen. Since she's the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except the two or three butterflies). Since she's the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all. Since she's my rose."
Antoine de Saint-Exupry, The Little Prince
Zoya:
It is futile to discuss her in isolation. She is the instrument out of which Asad produces ethereal music. She is also his inspiration. Without her he wouldn't be able to realize the reason for his existence. Without him, she would be only a beautiful instrument waiting to be played by her soul mate.
Zoya has long since stopped asking the question:"Kyun farak padta hai?" Mr.Khan has confused her time and again when she thought she knew him.
After Mangalpur, he had purposely wanted to keep a distance and it had surprised her. After the bhang incident, he had simply refused to acknowledge the proximity of the night- wanting to hide something….WHAT? What did he try to hide?
And more recently, he had offered to take her to Badi Masjid and suddenly gone back on his words. The man was confusing! NO wonder Zoya expected some sarcastic insensitive comment from him after the recent openness during Holi. And he is going to surprise her again, coming up with that cake. Is there more to this man? Is there more to her feelings for him?
Will Zoya investigate right now, when the foremost thing on her mind is her Abbu?
"In those days, I didn't understand anything. I should have judged her according to her actions, not her words. She perfumed my planet and lit up my life. I should never have run away! I ought to have realized the tenderness underlying her silly pretensions. Flowers are so contadictory! But I was too young to know how to love her."
