What would you do if your kid came home with the same-sex person and said that they were gay, and wanted to be with the said person?

What are your reasons for the way you would react?

Now then, as for the questions you asked - I am sixteen and we're talking of at least two decades from now if I am to truly answer this question. So, I think I'd be taken aback if my son or daughter told me so if I had not an inkling of this before. If however I did I would say, "I knew it all along" and beam at my child in a supportive fashion. It all comes down to who they see themselves as. It is the responsibility of a parent to help their child through their struggles and the most basic code of loving people is that you continue to love them even after learning new things about them, things that might bring anxiety and struggle to both your life and theirs but ultimately you'd both be better off if you admit that that's who they are.

It sounds very plain when put like that, y'know? There are one too many hardships that strike one immediately after being told that their child is gay. Most people succumb to societal pressure and turn their children into depressed closet gays. Not nice, if you ask me. 😳 You've given birth to them, raised them up to be truthful gentlemen and women and plucking up the courage to stick with them through their struggles is about the last thing and most important thing you could for them in your lifetime.

Not many address this particular question though. People may not oppose homosexuality, however the moment their child may come out of the closet, they may sing a different tune.

I know that my parents and I have had this debate before - and while they are not homophobic, nor do they care if someone is homosexual, I posed to them the same question I asked above and both of them immediately...their answers changed.

So I just wanted to know what the forum thinks. I wanted people to actually put themselves in the parents' shoes and then answer.

Much as I would want every parent to accept their gay child, I won't hold it against the parent if he is initially revolted by the situation. Let's face it, all of us have been raised up in a certain manner, there are many things that are so much shrouded in taboos in our society and psychology that it's difficult to break that boundary and accept what we have been repeatedly told to shun out. That said, IMO a parent should research this subject and make his mind rather than blindly follow what he's told to follow. Also, regardless of what the parent feels about this subject, the end choice about how his child wants to live his life must be up to him. Once the child has come age, a parent can't have his will over his child's, it's his life and his alone.

Personally no, it wouldn't matter to me personally, but I would definitely dread the position my child would have to face in the real world out there. The reality isn't so accepting as pieces of papers tell us.

I would accept it and be supportive - the world is harsh enough for parents to be turning their back on their children.

I would also be worried about the way society treats them, perhaps not in the day to day interactions with people if they live in a cosmopolitan area, but I would worry about them being able to marry if they wanted to, or have children. It's easier these days as the stigma against homosexuality is slowly ebbing and people embrace different kinds of lifestyles and families, but still it's not easy.

I'd react the same way I'd react to a straight son/daughter bringing home their S/O. The way I see it, their sexual life is none of my business after they turn 18. If they are under 18 and still under my roof, I'd hope they're exercising caution and using protection.

When I started thinking about this question a while back, it used to scare me.. what if my son/daughter turned out to be gay?

But after a lot of thought, I realized that ultimately no one loves and supports you as much as your parents do .. so if I don't support my kid who will!

As to the second part of the question, only my kid will know whether or not the person they love is right for them. I will make sure they know if I am happy or unhappy (and why) about their choice, but I will support them even if they are hell-bent on spending the rest of their life with someone who I think is wrong for them!

Attractions happen but nothing is permanent...people change ,thoughts change, symptoms changes, hormones change but we can analyse the changes, we can evaluate how it happen ,and can cure the changes depend upon the time and situation.
