Aamir Khan did it.
Now its JackieChhan's turn
A society full of elders who don't get it. Dowry, bribery, caste-system, discrimination, corruption, female infanticide, and more, all approved by the complacent elders of the society. It takes a brave young woman to appear on scene and denounce the evil, get the world to see the light of day and train dogs all in one day. Only if life were as easy as training dogs.
Its proven that neural activity of brain settles next to zero when we watch TV. But indian soaps have taken the extra effort to plunge any brain activity to sub-zero. Who says its women who watch these soaps? I think men secretly watch them too, in the bathroom and closet hideouts. How else do you explain the total lack of brain activity from the groom, when his bride runs away from the altar accusing all and sundry of dowry? What is his deal, sit pretty in the mandap, anticipating a speedy and successful first ngiht?
Today, we handled the evil of dowry. I presume bribery and corruption are not far behind. The Sethani is the Goliath and Jackie Chhan the David. Stage is set. Let the games begin.
This is not a hero centric show, that much is clear. It might be a dog centric show, but that got disproved when the little Puch Puch peed on pants of guests. No self respecting dog-hero would subject itself to labored ideas of comedy. Do I get the sense that the story maker is trying too hard to get the laughs? The comedy musical background, forced laughter of the actors or a laugh-track do not compensate for weak jokes or plotlines.
As for Jackie Chhan, she is da bomb but we knew that. Yet, I had the distinct feeling of seeing Happy all over again, albeit in Jeans this time - with a better hairdo.
Sanaya shines in the coveted central role. However, I would hope she'd lower her over zealous dialog delivery and acting a few notches down because
a. she is the eponymous lead, she doesn't need to worry about shining through, She will, by her sheer presence
b. her larger than life personality drowns out the male lead, completely. He is cute, a bit rough around the edges and a perfect second fiddle to the leading lady. If that offends you, its even more reason for Jackie Chhan to notch down her irrational exuberance to let the leading man some space and time to form a screen presence - and lose the puppy pee after-odor.
Long Bhashan ka the end.
